Help On 89 Lt250r !

I need help on my 89 lt250r suzuki quadrunner. Apparently I can't seem to locate or find my engine number. I got the vin# but not even the DMV paperwork has it ,all they have on record is ZZZZZZ . Who , what , where, why, or how am I having this problem ? Stupid DMV won't verify it so I'm assed out ti'll I figure it out.HELP!

is it a quadracer or quadrunner? if its a quadracer its on top of the bottom end under the carb. if its a quadrunner i have no idea where it is.

since when does dmv want motor numbers? In NJ they don't, what happens if you are one of the many people who bought a replacement case(250r owners), what do they do then?
