and what does NOS mean? i'm quite sure it has nothing to do with being discontinued, it has to do with being new, and sealed!

If you've got a part on the shelf for years but it's still new it's NOS.

Right.... just because it's New old stock, doesn't mean it's not available anymore.....

"New Old stock" simply means that it is a part you stocked at one time, still have in stock, but its been around longer than you care to keep stock. The term was created by dealers who had brand new outdated or obsolete parts still on the shelf that they wanted to liquidate because after sitting on the shelf for 10 years, they didnt feel a need to keep it in stock on the chance that somebody would walk in asking for one. To use the term correclty, the item must be unused and in the original packaging, old or outdated, and something that was once kept as a stock item. It has nothing to do with whether or not it is discontinued. Discontinued means the factory no longer makes it. Shops often find old stock items they wish to get rid of and no longer stock that are still available from the factory. If you bought something from a dealer 10 years ago, and its still unsed in the orginal package, it is not NOS unless you bought it for resale. Once it reaches the end user, it is no longer "stock", even if it was never used.
