Just fill it to the top of the fill hole. ( If it is the same as the shaft drive trikes. )

You are all right as far as quanity but the YTM 225 manual does state (page 34) to fill it up to the brim of hole.

what kind of manual do you have? The Clymer doesnt say that on p.34

My OEM 225 DX Service manual says 130-140 ml & also shows a picture displaying that you fill it until it runs out. I measured mine once & it was about 140 ml.
Also, make sure it is Hypoid gear oil. Usually 80-90w is fine, depending on your climate.

Clymer doesn't say a lot of things sometimes

They try to cover (sometimes) too many models in one book.

Factory manuals (shop manuals) are the way to go if you want every detail.

yeah it's not like an engine so the rearend being full doesn't seem like a bad thing....on the 225 engines is there an oil filter?i see 3 hex key screws seems like a oil filter..anyone know?

Yamahauler

well i know there is in a 200E, so id imagine there is one in a 225. And yes its those three hex screws. just take them off and pull the filter out

so is it pretty much fool proof???only goes in 1 way? Also is ther a seal or o-ring or is it built onto the filter??

There is a marking on the filter that say either inside or outside, cant rememerb which. If it says inside, that side goes into the motor, and outside...you get the point. There is an o-ring on the cover of where the oil filter goes.
Its easy to do. drain out all the oil by taking the drain plug out, then loosen the filter cover and take the filter out, clean it out or replace it. put it back together, add oil

its in the same spot as a honda's, its just instead of needing a 24mm wrench like a honda, you'll need a smaller one, not sure of the size though.

Of the three screws, the lower 1 is also the drain for the oil filter housing. If I remember right 1 of the screws is different length than the other 2, so pay attention when you pull them out.

yep the one furthest to the left is the longest one. All three are differant lengths so just remmeber when your taking them out. They will all only go in one way.
