Hey guys,
all of you that have a fox bodied Gt with the 5.0 chime in.. iam looking at mayb buying one this fall with the money i might have saved over the summer, its a 93 mustang gt, 5.0, flowmasters cat back with h-pipe, 3.73 gears, 5 speed, GREAT condtion. and 17 inch cobra rims!!! all for 3K, i want to be in a mustang club with my freind but he has a 347 stroker motor and most the guys in the club have hi horse mustangs, so what woudl you guys do on a budget (probly no more then 1500) to get this mustang to run alittle better, i have ridden in it and its FAST but not as fast as the cars in the club... i dont need to be the fastest, just something to help me keep up... o the car has 45,000 ORIGNAL MILES!!!!!
thanks

well it's a mustang club it's not about being fast it a club for mustang lovers.....you could join with a 4cyl stang,i had a foxbody and it was only running 13's in the 1/4 and alot of the guys had 347 strokers and 393 strokers running 10's and i still hung around with the club...a stock 5.0 is more then enough on city streets and highways if you push it to the limit your gonna hurt or kill someone.....i had mine at the track a few times and still had fun running 13's......invest the $1500 into it and work on running a decent 1/4 for the car and try to run it consistent..it's not always the car work on your driving skills.

I had a 1993 5.0-- a retired FHP (Florida Highway Patrol) car with 87k miles. 5 speed, 3.73 limited slip, and best of all.....ALL BLACK . I put a 150 # shot of nitros, a racing clutch, headers, flowmasters with a "H" pipe (no cats), a short shift kit, sub frame connectors and strut bars, and man lemme tell you----she was bad. Wished I hung onto her. The $ was too sweet at the time so I sold her...for almost 8k. I bought it at auction for 3500 bucks and had people fighting over it for 7900 after adding the mods. If you can get one for a good deal- go with it. :D

3k is a heck of a deal for that car with 45k on the clock. Ive got a abused 88 Gt, that has a 306 short block, gt40 heads, Comp cam (way to big for the street, chugs below 1800 rpms and its a 5spd) and some other little stuff. Its pretty quick but its not the nicest around. Its runs 13.4s at 113mph. Once i get the body work then im going to start saving up to make it even faster. There is a ton of stuff out there for fox body mustangs, you can build just about anything with the money.

the wife has an 89 LX 5.0 5 speed, bought it new. Hasnt been on the road in 3 years (hard to fit a baby seat in it and drive it while pregnant!) It is 100% stock and in immaculate condition with around 70K on it.

Im not a foxbody expert by any means, but I would do a cam with about a .514" lift and .294" duration or somthin close to that, then I would get stiff valve springs 400lbs of compression or so to achieve greater rpms Im certian you could to around 8,000 grand just by doing that provided you get bigger injectors, fuel pump and throttle body, if you are going to get gt40 heads get them ported and polished. If you got a little more money and a little more time balance and blueprint the block and internals, and put about a 10.5 to 1 piston in it. A 100 shot of nitrous will also give it more ummmph and it would be realitively cheap. But I think you otta save up more money and get a centrifigual supercharger (pro-charger) that would be an awesome upgrade right there.

yah,, i think iam going to go big and make it a 347 cobra engine, the 347 boring and install of the kit is 700 bucks so for 700 bucks i get my 5.0 back as a 347 short block, i finsih assembly and add all my cobra parts, and later on go pro charger!!! then you get like close to 500 PLUS out of the motor, i think iam going 347 or just make it a cobra

You wont be dissapointed with going this route, you can look at fords production 347 motor they make, 450 hp. Im sure with a procharger set to about 12 lbs of boost or so will make over 600hp, just be sure to build the tranny and rear end up for your set-up, it never hurts to build it stronger than it needs to be becuase later you might want to add some more performance. Good luck with the build
