Dammit!

This comes up every once in a while but maybe someone has found a good way to do this by now.
Options for shipping a trike anyone?
Last time I did it I found a moving company that was going my direction but that can be a pain to arrange and there's a luck element involved. My 1985 200x is gonna be for sale soon and I'd like to offer shipping so I need to find out what options are out there and the general costs involved.
Edit: was this moved or was I drunk when I posted it? :wondering

Just got a quote from Forward Air for $560 from Phoenix to Miami (I asked for something like a worst case scenario and that's what he gave me). I'd have to order a shipping crate which takes two weeks he said, then take the trike to their shipping depot and off it goes.
Anybody ever use them and have an opinion on their service? Sounds decent to me.

Forward Air is one of the least expensive. Also you might want to look into uship.com, kind of like an ebay for shipping.

forward air is definitly the cheapest. all you need to do is strap the bike to a pallet. then off it goes. i had a tri-z shipped from colorado to here in new york long island for $180. i had had gotten a quote to ship a dirt bike threw a truckiong company. new york to maryland they wanted $250 so you really need to shop around good luck

I agree with everyone here Fowardair is the way to go. Thats who shipped me my 86R. You need not worry they will take care of your trike.

the crate must be sealed.. meaning that it is solid plywood all around, yr better off renting a crate from forward air, just supply yr own locks and straps and yr set@!

I shipped a Quadzilla from Virginia Beach to Phoenix using Forward Air. I crated the quad myself, and took it over there on a flat bed (the entire package was huge, weighed over 700lbs). Total cost was $260.
The bike I just sold on ebay is going to Toronto in a Forward Air supplied crate for about $350. I think they're there the best deal going.

It's looking like somewhere between $330 and $370 to ship the 200x from Phoenix to Minnesota. Not terrible. That's in their container too. Not just on a pallet.

Well Forward Air is really starting to tick me off. First they told me $367 using one of their containers and I told them dimensions of the bike was 70 inches long, 45 inches wide and 45 inches tall (I was off a little, it's 72.5x41x41). They told the buyer $334 but he told them it was 60 inches in length.
Turns out they have only three containers. 61 inches, 98 inches and 118 inches. The real prices for these going where it needs to go is $334 for the small and $495 for the medium (the buyer called and they told him $545 for the medium so these dip****s don't know what they're talking about).
So in order to get the $334 he was originally quoted I have to partially disassemble the trike to fit it in that small container and even then it's going to be a very tight fit. I think it will work though but it's less than ideal, obviously. I'd like to talk to the first person I spoke to again that quoted me $367 for a 70 inch vehicle.
Advice? Anybody ever gotten a container that was a different size than those? What about shipping on a pallet?
Go to the local bike dealership and ask them for a Quad crate, i know our shop gives them away, like a kodiak 450 crate ors omething that is steel, it weighs like 20 lbs is strong and is a big box..they work good.

I'll look into that but I don't know how I would transport a box like that to the shipping station. All I have is a little S-10 pickup.

throw the bike in the back, and the crate its in piece's top and bottem and 4 upright poles, then put it togther in the parking lot of the shipping company hahah.....what i would do ...:P would take all of 5 mins to do, use some ratchet straps on the trike and some of that plastic wrap on the crate if you can....works like a charm :beer

Just found a shipper willing to give me a quad crate so that was a good tip. Thanks! Now I'm just waiting to find out if we can get it picked up from my house. I don't want to deal with taking the crate and trike to some shipping depot and getting it inside the crate their. My garage would be much more convenient.

the lady at forward air told me that i would have to bring the trike there to get a price. after they measure it and weigh it, then i would need to go get a money order or cashiers check. that's all they accept and she said she could'nt even give me a ballpark figure without "the specs" on the trike.
is this really how it works, or should i talk to someone other than "Tamika"?
