I don't know what I have got into. I received a call from a Search and Rescue organization that needs airboats for their rescue missions. Due to the high water and the devistation and stuff under the water airboats seem to be the only way to get to the outer regions. At this point it will be mostly retreiving dead bodys. imagine this Driving guys around as they pile dead bodys into your boat. But they are willing to pay $175.00 per hour plus expenses and fuel. 10 hour days for 5 days to 6 weeks. That should add up nicely$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ It will be a bag em and tag em type of deal. I just hope I can stomach it. It should be a horrible smell and sight. We have a group of about 8 of us that are taking boats and Swamp Buggies to the area. And we will be able to carry our guns for our protection. Once again What have I gotten myself into.

The money sounds really good but I do not envy you one bit, as it will take a long time to forget about what you are fixing to see. Be careful down there also as it sounds very unruly right now.....Chris

Ive seen a car explode with limbs come out...it is terrible, I dont like it when people die. Sorta sucks. But on the bright side, GOOD PAY! Pluss you don't need to pay for fuel. Maybe im just a freak but i think i would do it. What are you protecting yourself against? Zombies?!

I guess you don't realize that in the remains of the city it is total anarchy, violent criminals are roaming the streets, armed and looking to both survive and profit of the misery of others. If they could car-jack a souped up airboat, they would be able to loot, murder and rob anyone they came across, with little chance of being pursued by any law enforcemt agency.

I'd recommend a kevlar vest to go along with the sidearm. Be safe dude.

make sure you spend that 175$ an hour on resurrecting the dead atcs in the hurricane victims memories...

No offense but they're going to let private citizens come in carrying guns? Sounds more dangerous than the looters to me.

Maybe you could give some of that jack back to the city that is in desperate need right now? Some of the stuff I saw on CNN brought tears to my eyes. Women holding children that are on deaths door, elderly people in chairs, with no one around to help, what a mess. Wish I could do more than I have, those people really need a helping hand right now. My prayers go out to them! I hope you all can do the same!

Since when should the private citizens need to ASK permission to Carry a LEGAL firearm? Seems to me it is my RIGHT to carry.

I hope you give your comments some more thought. Socialism isn't too far off.

I may load up the Durango with my guns, tent, Alice Pack, hip waders, all the Water, Speghetti O's and ammo it can carry and head down there to offer my services to one of those wealthy hotels or shops as a "Private Security Firm". I'll say "my fee is $50,000 per job and you can pay me when the insurance kicks in". I understand letting them have any food they can find - thats only right. However - I see some retard pushing a worthless waterlogged big screen T.V. with 10 pairs of Nike's strung around his neck, I'll shoot him on principal alone. I also love how they are taking pot shots at the rescue and supply helo's - maybe they think that if they shoot one down, they'll get to the supplies faster?. They might think twice if theres an Apache escorting them - that 30mm Bushmaster chain gun will do wonders for crowd control. All I can say is - the mayor did order EVERYONE out before the storm, right?.

Mike, be careful and good luck.

Good luck man, Somebodys got to do it. My prayers are with you and the other down there.

P.S I also would think a kevlar vest is a good idea, and the thing about the no guns. Have you seen the condition down there? I would bring one.

What I mean is that there are a lot of idiots out there that shouldn't have a gun in their hands in the first place. Now give him a Rambo attitude and I wouldn't want to be in range when he starts shooting. Over water no less...
I have no problem with protecting yourself or your business if you know what you're doing.

I don't know Mike whatsoever, but I've been reading his posts for a number of years.
From that, I don't think he'll be part of the problem.
Good luck man and yes Kevlar vests are available at your local army surplus store at a bargain. They are heavy. They are hot. But they might also save your life.
I visited Bosnia with the troops during the hostilities in the '90s and wouldn't wear a vest for those reasons. Too hot. Too uncomfortable. Too heavy.
It took one instance of gunfire nearby to convince me that 90F isn't as hot as the fires of hell -- where I was likely going if one of those bullets reached me.
Godspeed, man!

i`d rather wear a vest and lose some weight sweating than not wear it and lose a whole lot more than that!.....you be safe down there man and god bless for what you are doing.....i was in the colorado mounted rangers and we did alot of search and rescue stuff with lost hunters and also helped the state patrol alot with bad accidents on the pass....whast you`re gonna see is not gonna be pretty, but you`re doing a service that is definitely needed......come back home safe
