I thought I would share my project with y'all. I have been rounding up a lot of parts for this in the past year. I still have to buy a 250R-based quad, but that's the easy part. :D Don't worry, this will not be some redneck hackjob. I am very detail-oriented, and I will not own anything that could be labeled as cobbled-together. There are two pics at the bottom that show what it will look very similar to when I'm done. Enough of that, here's the list (very long):

That is one sick looking quad.

Got the article on Yokley's quad in an issue of dirt wheels. Uses the latest gen KX250 motor, tons of power, 250r geometry frame, very nice!

I always loved those team green 250r's. Might be my favorite quad. I wish they would have made them for the public. I can't wait to see yours. I wish that you were turning yours into a GNCC quad.

that would be sick, but have a custom pipe made...it wont be right if you use a 250R pipe, the bore and stroke arent the same, therefore pipe dimensions are going to be completely different....and the pipe would be kinda "cobbed" which is totally what you dont want...

it wont be right if you use a 250R pipe

Well, I knda have to use a 250R-style pipe because the chassis will be based on a 250R. By 250R-style I mean that it will be routed like a 250R pipe. However, I am going to talk to FTZ about making a custom pipe to take advantage of the engine's power characteristics. They seem to be one of the few companies left that still makes custom pipes. That, and they are in Missouri, so I can take my quad up there if I have to. Don't worry it won't look bad, but it won't be as perfect as a stamped and welded pipe like an FMF or Pro Circuit. Me personally, I actually like hand-made pipes because you can see the results of a true craftsman, something that is becoming very rare today, regardless of the product. There's nothing shoddy-looking about that.

another company that will help you out is dyno port but that woudl require you giving them your bike for a few weeks.i have done that with my yz490/blaster conversion but that looks awesome, you are kinda inspiring me to finish my tecate-4

Wow, I didn't realize it had been so long. Needless to say, Uncle Sam got what he wanted, so I took a vacation to the cradle of humanity last year. Fifteen months on the taxpayers' dollars.

I'm still here in Savannah, so my ability to work on this project is limited to say the least. Couple that with the facts that my wife is pregnant and we live in a third-floor apartment, and you'll get the jist. What you see below is what I bought while I was downrange.

It's a narrow-chassis Laeger's 250R with a Sparks 265 National engine in it. +3 Roll Design a-arms, long-travel Custom Axis shocks all around, CR500 link swingarm, all the goodies. It's the fastest 250R I've ever ridden, but I know a stroked T4 engine could push it along a little faster. A few things have changed from the original list, though. It will now be a 326 instead of a 350, and the pipe will be built by Matt Shearer in California. The plastic will be green Fullbore 250R pieces. I know, I'd like to use all Kawie parts, but replacements could be a pain in the future. This project is still a go, but it's at a glacier's pace. I have 90% of the parts, but no space to finish it right now. I will finish this, I promise.

dont tell me your gonna chop that up

69HemiGTX
03-12-2009, 03:07 PM
I'm not chopping anything up. The most I'll have to do is modify the swingarm to fit the cases of the T4 engine since they have a swingarm bolt boss, unlike a 250R. If it's any comfort to you, the lower frame rails have some pretty good flat spots, so they'll be replaced anyways. What's the difference if I change the lower engine mounts while I'm at it? I'll never sell it when I'm done, so it's no big deal.

Id still like to see a race worry tecate 4.

i ran into a guy riding at a local hot spot in 2005 who had one. 1987 best one ive never seen, work shock all the raw around, not sure about the frame but had custom arm arms wide axle tons of travel front and rear, chome pipe lime green and blue....not sure what else but it was wide, fast and a rare site!

Did it have a number 613 on it? It was most likely speedbump.

not sure, was at towercity pa in 2005. might of had a number but i have no clue what it was...i just remebered i stoped on a 81 kdx175 and watched it go by cuz it was a rare moment in time....only tecate 4 ive ever seen in person...only even saw 1 T3 in person at a local kawi dealer too about 8-9 years ago.
