Ok guys, need some motor heads help. Gettin' ready to rebuild the R's motor and can't decide how I want to build it. A guy at the local shop told me to use a 87-89 crank and rod with a 86 piston and a spacer plate to get more mid-range and top-end. I started to order the stuff to do it, but have seen a couple of people that said it will be slower. Should I go for this combo or stick to a stock or overbore application. Any help would be appreciated!

:D i would have to say that if it runs fine leave it alone. but if it needs rebuilding. then go with new piston and rings, circlips.wrist pin and bearing. and i always go with the WISECO PRO LITE. they are the best. maybe some new reeds. and if u have to do the crank always go stock with that.........

I'm with G-Man but to answer your question I like the 86 set up the best. Stick with the next size bore with the Pro lite. Also 2-strokes love compression just have the head done for a little more, nothing crazy and get some porting done. I'll be a night and day difference with a good pipe and jetting.

no need to stroke it...i spanked a few stroker motors, at the local drags with my 86 it was .100 over with a milled and decked head..reeds and a fmf

Freakfixs know what I'm talking about. This will do a lot more than that crank swap.

Kimmer the 86 is considered the more powerfull motor stick with it

Is there any difference between the '85 and the '86 motors?

Well, I thought it over and I think I might do the LRD 300 sleeve kit. Looks like a sweet kit, but it says it uses a 87-89 cylinder. I'm going to call them and ask if I can use a 86 cylinder, if not I'll sell mine on ebay and buy a 87-89 cylinder. As for the crank, I'll just put new bearings in and a new rod on. Thanks for the info guys!
