My bro finally got sick of messing with his 2 200xs and bought a brand new YZF. We were sceptical about it, especially it only having electric start, but we love the thing. I can't believe how fast it is, i don't think the tecate can take it. it handles amazing, jumps are effortless and so smooth on the landing you can't even tell youl eft the ground. The only problem we've had is the emergency brake quit working. I'm definitely considering buying one this summer. What do you guys think of them?

I think you should buy the new 06 TRX450R and race him, thats what I think!!!! But hey what do I know, I'm just a honda rider......hahaha

I agree with TCB. The '06 Honda 450 has many improvements (as does the yamaha- in all fairness).......but I dig the Honda. Although I am divided down the middle right now with my bikes, I am still a Honda man.:beer

i like both and you won't be disapointed either way you go. the emergency brakes on the 450 and raptors blow. they always go out. tell him to just get the parking brake block-off and be done with it. i think if i was gonna buy a brand new one id get the honda though but im pretty partial you yamaha as far as sport quads go. if i was to buy a 4X4 it would be a honda

yep i love my trx450r.....the emergency brake is crap on mine too.....i just adjust it off so it does'nt wear the pads........ i'd go with a 06 trx but that's just personal choice ...there pretty well matched in every way.......

I got an '06 450r and my buddy has an '06 yfz. They are quite evenly matched all around. The biggest difference we see is the ground clearance at the A-Arms. The Honda has ALOT more clearance than the yamaha. The only other thing that I really dont like about the YFZ is the location of the fuel valve. It is (IMO) very hard to get to while riding. GREG

I love my 05 trx, I would go with honda just because of the powerup kit you can install for like $200 more, and then it will rip up a yfz. I also think the trx's look so much better. Heres some pics of mine, sucks my camera settings were on low.

Oh, could have fooled me, I just bought an 05 2 days ago with the hrc powerup kit, dg front bumper, nerfs, and fx graphics kit for a little over $6100 OTD..brand new. And I was told it was $200 for the kit.

OK, let me rephrase that it wont KILL a YFZ, but it will certainly be ahead, not by much but it will be.

what exactly is in that kit? I think i like the looks of the yfz better, im not sure though. They are both pretty agressive looking quads. Oh, another thing about it. We drove it when it was pretty wet out, and the front fenders are basically useless for keeping any mud and water off the driver. I wish they made some bigger fenders or something.

The YFZ is a fine machine. So far I have only opened up a couple of times and it felt like it still had more to give. Plus, just look how sexy this thing is.

why would * want bigger fenders on a sport quad? most people cut them off anyways.

I'll have to get some pics of the sleds. I had the f7 out yesterday and went ripping across the lawn to try out the new SLP, unfortunatly its a camera phone, and the pictures suck..but it gets the point across.

didn't they change the plastics on the R? around the headlight? the 05 looks alot better to me and I don;t really need electric start. I also like honda.

yfz450's are nice though and lonestar is correct that pic makes the bike look sexy.

Yes conig, they did change the plastic for '06. They also gave it more compression along with the electric start, and some other minor changes . And if I could post pics I would show you my '06. GREG

I have an 05 and the HRC kit is $226.95 and I am having it sent out tomorrow. I was beating a 05 YFZ 450 once I put my pipe and jet on my 450R. He changed the cam timing and rejetted with the airbox lid off (no needle and main jet), rev box and exhaust cap off and we dragged several more times. The 450r will get the holeshot almost everytime, but the YFZ will now catch and pass it at 700ft. They stay roughly the same distance apart until we slow down at 1100 ft. We swapped up bikes and results were the same. We both agreed that the YFZ revved faster in the conditions we were in with each bike in that specific state of tune, and the 450R was easier to ride and had superior ride quality (comfort). We were thinking that the HRC kit would wake up the 450R and make it rev quicker, we'll see.

That price for my HRC kit is shipped! Keep in mind that the 04-05 HRC kit is different than the 06 and is cheaper. The 06 HRC kit is $323 plus shipping.

I was looking at the honda site today and I was surprised. The 400ex looks just like the 450r. I'm a little behind on todays quads. So I thought I would check them out. 250ex looks 100 times better than before. 300ex is the same. 400ex still has a aircooled motor. They should really update it with the liquid cooling... I was reading atvconnection and everyone was complaining about the yfz450 seat and how uncomfortable the egos are? I also notice how expensive these things are nowadays. Geez, incredible. $8,000 for these things. I'd rather go out and buy three or four good condition 250r's or 350x's for that amount. 3wheels are better than 4! :TrikesOwn

I dont know what your buying, but damn..the most expensive sport quad i've seen is a 700 raptor for like 7100. I bought my 450r for 6100 otd, with nerfs, bumper, graphics kit, and HRC equipped.

These big bore Utilites are expensive too. I think the bombadiar is over $8000.
