looks like some kind of screw jack. Perhaps a belt tensioner. How long is it?

It is a bout 8 and a half inches long with the thing screwed in. The bar with the two nuts unscrews out of the assembly. below is a pic with it partially unscrewed and a pic of the bottom. Still learning the digital camera thing I don't know how to get rid of the blur.

Looks kinda like a Jackstand with no base... They use em on campers... I have some that look just like that!

that kinda reminds me of those things they use in the bottom of the posts that would hold up a roof on someones poarch or on a support you would put in you cellar to support the floor. you know if you got a waterbed or something but I don't know. but it reminds me of some kind of adjustable jack or support,;)

Its not half of a really small bike air pump, is it?

I agree with RedRider, it looks like a bike pump but the top end pumper thing is missing, by the way, where did you find that...was it garbage day over there again?

I am highly doubting that it is any sort of pump device. Its just not possible, there is no way for this thing to suck in and pump air. It could be some type of stand jack stand thing.

All of the intake/exhaust guts are on the bottom though, and thats missing, so of course you cant see them.

Then whats the point of the bolt that screws into the shaft. Why would an air pump have that. I've never seen a air pump with any part of it looking like that.

I found it buried in my fathers tools and junk. He didn't know what it was either.
