Does anyone know the size and length of a 70-80 jeep wagoneer axle and houseing? Or know where i can find a specs for a wagoneer. It has a 360 V8 in it with a 904 automatic tranny and im thinking about swapping the motor and axles into my CJ5. Anybody have advice or tips?

I JUST sold my 77 CJ-5. It had the AMC 360 mated to a 4 speed manual with a granny first gear. The tranny was taken from an old AMC Commanche pickup,. and the 360 from a Wagoneer. My 5 came stock with the 304, and the 360 used the same mounts. Kept the same T case and all. It bolted right in.

That being said.......

I really suggest NOT doing this swap. It was nice for turning 35 inch tires like nothing, but after I had it awhile, i would have really prefferred the 258 straight 6 with a 4 speed manual. That's what I had in my CJ7, running 33 inch tires, and it was GREAT both on and off road. A 360 in a CJ5 is too much, in my opinion, unless you wanna turn 40+ inch mud tires really fast and burn crazy gas.

Like i saids its just an idea i realy want to put a 304,302,or a 305 in it i think that would work way better than a 360. But how big of axles would you run? Im only going to run 31's on it so i dont need super heavy duty axles.

I kept the stock setup, which was the AMC 20 rear, but with one-pice axle conversion/ Front was stock Dana 30.

31s? I would go with a 258 straight 6 and stock axles. Remember: AMC did that from the factory for a reason ;) ........because it was a GREAT setup to begin with. There were times when I regretted having a V8.:( Weight, fuel mileage, ease of maintinence, etc.

Good luck

you will want the axles from a 75-79 wagoneer or cherokee. the drive shaft is on the passenger side like your cj5. they are only a couple incjes wider. get the rear one also it a dana44 and it'll match the 6 lug pattern. the 80 and up ones drivers side ones and they are wider yet like a full size chevy

if you use just the front you'll have to steal the rotors and hub from a 79 bronco to keep your 5 lug.

i go offroading with a club in PA also it's cheaper them atv's:rolleyes: i have a 85 toyota 4runner and a 82 pickup with 35" lockers and 5.29 gears.

check out pirate4x4.com they are a big offroading web site like this is for atc's
