My wife and I bought our house as a fixer-upper and this fall we did a lot of work to it. There had been a long term leak on the roof that destroyed rafters, ceiling joists, and studs. When I peeled back a 3x4 foot section of the old flat roofing material in the main affected area I was greeted by enough carpenter ants to cover the entire underside of the material. It was a little eerie to say the least. The entire roof was striped, all damage was fixed and then it was recovered. The water damage was so extensive that it rotted the side of the house too. You couldn't see it because it was under 3 layers of old siding.

We fixed the rotten side of the house and when inspecting some of the good areas this weekend I found 3 of these nice little ant nests. There's no damage where I found these guys, it just looks like the survivors of the damaged areas needed a place to go dormant for the winter. Needless to say we're on a yearly terminex plan now just to be safe.;)

I had ants when i bought my house 2 years ago. Hills all over the yard.

As well as Mice.. ( in the house and out )

Wasps in the basement... front ditch.. etc...

The damn place was infested.. but i got it all cleaned up !!!! Now.

I remember living with my parents many years ago.. heating with firewood.. we ended up with a hollow log.. FULL of red ants.

Ants like waterbeds !!!!!!! trust me !

Now thats thinking 'ATC crazy', just think if you had a cat, it would be on the roof and walls after those critters. Or better yet, get a spider and put i there, a big spider to get all those little critters.

That's horrible!!

When I moved into my current house, my wife walked into the master bathroom and was greeted by roughly 300 spiders. The house had been vacant for months, and in the Arizona desert, a house that sits unoccupied will get filled with either spiders, scorpions or snakes.

We have been in here about a month now, and still get spiders popping up here and there.

You'd be suprised how long it takes for a piece of wood to catch when you hold a torch to it.

we had a huge nest of fire ants out in our backyard. it was huge, and they seriously wouldent die. we tried the ant killer granuals (sp?), spray killer, etc. nothing worked. we even poured bleach down the nest hole. still, nothing killed them.

i ended up using a quart of lighter fluid, and a shovel. i poured the lighter fluid down the nest, torched it. then dug the nest up, more lighter fluid, more fire. that did the trick haha.
