I loved my LT-R and never had a real problem with it - the only quad (back in the day) that could out handle it was the TRX. Stock ratings for the '87 powervalved motor was 32hp and the '88 - '92 - 34hp.

My buddy had an '89 & loved it. The only problem he had was after he did the top end the shop that bored it bored it crooked! He had another shop redo it which took some doing with out haveing to resleeve it. Other then that he had no problems. I rode the thing a few times & it's fast. Nice bikes I think if you can find one that's not to best unless you want to spend some cash.

Closest thing to a TRX250R without actually having a TRX250R!

...oh ... and as far as weaknesses go, the water pump needs to be rebuilt every year or so depending on how many hours you put on the bike (simple fix) and the rebuild kit is about $40 from Zook, the rear shock will ALWAYS need a rebuild on any used LT-R you look at ($150 for a shop to do it depending on the condition of the shaft) and the frame behind the lower A-Arms is notorious for beeing bent easily - usually from a tree hit to the wheel.

I've seen decent used ones with a couple engine tear downs on them for $1,600. You can easily find them for A LOT more, but I would look for a LT500 if u plan on spending more. There was a LT500 around here that sold for 1700, and needed tires, thats it!!! Wait for deals sometimes, because they often come around.

I'd offer them $1600 no more or less, but I do agree if your looking for speed your looking in the right direction. I got a 89 lt250r. Runs like new and burns all newbies.
