Polaris Fuel pump question

I have a 2001 Polaris Trail Boss, and I found that the fuel pump under the headlight housing has been bypassed. Question is, is it needed, it runs fine just wondering wanted a reason why its there and how to check if it is any good.

Well, the carb is a CV type diaphragm unit - the only thing I can think of is that its there to act as a sort of accelerator pump and boost pressure for what ever reason. If you are having problems with it cutting out during steep acceleration, you might need to rebuild it and un-bypass it. Otherwise, its probably just overengineering.
