What can you say when your eleven year old gets his first deer? Congratulations TimJr! I guess that Reminton 870 20 guage youth model was a good investment.

Its thing like that that make me sick. I was hunting for 3 years before I finally killed one. Pretty cool he killed one at such a young age though. Now he will have bragging rights :D.

Does the youth model have much kick? My dad wants to get one for my sister. She is 12 years old.

Kudos to the kid!

Thanks guys. Ive passed the congrats along to TimJr.

Wheeliepop - The youth model 870 has no effect on recoil except possibly more of it, as it is a regular 870 receiver with a shorter barrel and shortened stock to fit a smaller stature. Ideal for a 12 year old, and I highly recommend a 20 guage. While .410 will do the job, its a major disadvantage, especially with shot shells on small game.

Chris - He assisted in field dressing it, wasnty crazy about it, but did what had to be done, just like me. He was instrumental in butchering both of them.

Honda185200s - I was using a Freedom Arms .454 Casull. I have a Ruger Redhawk in .44 Mag which I used to be limited to in Ohio, but they changed the laws a few years ago which now allow the Casull. With the new bullets Ive been using (Hornady XTP-Mag) Im now able to get just as good of accurracy as I got from the Ruger, with a lot more punch. .44 mag is a little on the underpowered end for whitetails, and the .454 gives me a wider range of shots I can take, such as this year's. This was the longest shot Ive ever taken any big game at just a hair over 100 yards.

The freezer is full right now, and should stay adequate until next year!
