Thinking about new tires for my 04 Chevy Xcab 4x4. I want 285/75-16's, but want to know if the 305/70-16's will work also, same height, only about an inch wider. Any rubbing or any problem with that? Would it be worth the extra $70-80 for the set?

Is your truck lifted any?

I would not put 305/70 (32.2 in by 12.2in) tires on your truck if it is not lifted. I have a 3 inch lift and 305/70 courser c/t's (aggressive all-terrain) on mine and the tires still rub a bit on the plastic inside the fenders, more than my 33/11.5 thornbirds did so the extra wideness is what will get ya. Also, if you arent running a wider rim I dont think the 305/70 will mount up, I have a 10inch wide rim.

Whats the width of your rims? Make sure they will fit the rims also.

What would be the easiest way to lift my truck up a couple inches. I want a little more ground clearance when I'm on the farm driving around. This truck is my daily driver too, so nothing too radical, just 2-4 inches of lift. I plan on doing all this before TF06, hopefully.

I put a 3in body lift on my Z71. I think the lift with bumper brackets was only like $120 something. Your truck will still ride the same as stock unless you tighten the torsion bars a little like I did. Suspension lifts are a lot more pricey but you get a little more lift and better off-road performance.

I get their catalog and will check that out. Did you add a leaf and crank on the torsion bars?

I only did the torsion bars. The add-a-leaf isn't a bad idea but the truck would sit unbalanced (back higher than front). I am actually looking into an aftermarket heavy duty torsion bar set up for a little bit more lift in the front. It is starting to sag a little. Keep in mind with a body lift, your step bars will still sit at the same height, showing a larger gap between the body, and your exhuast will seem lower (now you need duals :)). I have an aftermarket valley hitch so it doesn't look too bad with the gap between it and the bumper, and I took my spare tire out so you can't see it as much.

The rear looks higher than stock to me. I think we're talking about different things. I thought you said you had a 3" body lift on your Z71?

I do. What do you mean the rear looks higher than stock? The whole truck is lifted 3 inches. Stock, the rear of a truck will sit higher than the front, that is why i tighted the torsion bars so the truck will sit level.

That's what I thought. So you did a 3" body lift and leveled it out with the torsion bars.

I put a 3 inch body lift in my truck, 31 inch BFG all terrain T/A tires, they are a little wide, so, steering in the muck/snow is a bit of a pain, it still wants to go straight.

Even with the lift, my front tires still rub on the backs of the mudflaps when i turn, thats bout the only problem i have with them.

For the ride, with the 3 inch lift, it rides REALLY well, it only bumps around alot i the back becuase of the extra leaf thats in there (for towing/puttin my junk in the back)
