How many different types of fasteners are out there in the world?
The most common would be nuts/bolts Then you have nails, screws, set screws,circlips,e-clips,cotterpins,rivets,keyways. Then on the other end of the scale are things like tape(masking, duct, etc.), staples, thumbtacks, zip ties, glue. I know some of you guys work on equipment, machinery, computers, etc. and must know of some that most of us have never seen.Trikeaholic can add some good ones to this. Can Fastenal live up to thier name?
Anyone can jump in on this.

You didn't mention rivets, wether pop rivets or the old type of hot-impact rivets. I don't know if your including types of welding, but you did mention glue.

I wasnt sure if welding counted as a fastener or not. I did mention rivets up above.

Does it have to be removable without altering it any? Like would brazing, soldering, ect be included?

Ever seen a dutchman?? Thats when a particular edge of a male and female thread get drilled and tapped right where they meet and a set screw gets installed preventing the threaded stud from ever backing out. Works real well and kinda cool! German equipment uses all kinds of amazing technologies but still use the basic thread or press fit etc. etc.

I guess I'm looking for fasteners that dont actually bond to the material,,,,in that case, welding, soldering, brazing and glue are out.I guess tape would be out too then. This was one of my random thoughts, I just thought I'd post it and see where it went to????? Winter boredom has definately set in.
