if you are wanting to know what the articles are one is of the 500 Tecate that everyone knows about, another is on 2 drag trikes, one ia 3 cylinder 2 stroke and the other is a v-6 2 stroke. the last one isnt an article, its more like a few pics of different styles of 3 wheelers from various oldschool racing sanctions.

Sorry for the delay! I was waiting on them to arrive when I found out my Email Filter had held the email. Sometimes I HATE this email filter.

Anyway here they are...

So now the only question remains: Is the 500 'Cate faster than a Tiger?

ATCWRENCH

most definately. a 500cc fuel injected alcohol burning monster will obliterate(sp) any standard aircool 500 2 stroke.

Here we all thought the Cannondales were the first ones to pioneer fuel injection...Thats pretty interesting.

The owner of the bike at the time of the article is Ron Baker at PEP and he goes back a long ways. He used to do all of Jimmy White's Tecate suspension back in the mid 80's. Ron also rebuilt/refurbished Jimmy Whites personal Factory 86 Tecate a few years ago after it was stolen and recovered with a seized motor.

Also anyone getting the idea to put KX500 motor into an 84/85 Tecate please look closely at the photos in the article. The 84/85 Tecate front frame downtube is straight due to the angled exhaust exit on the 84/85 Tecate motor. The KX500 has a center exit exhaust that would interfere with the frame on the first generation Tecate. You would have to completely rework the front section of the frame into a "Y" downtube like the 86/87 Tecate to make the KX500 fit.

Curtis.

Curtis I remember you saying you talked to Ron Baker one time...did you know about or mention this KX500 conversion then? Wonder if he still has it.

I believe in the article it says Ron Baker built the whole frame custom, based on factory Tecate geometry.

I saw that.. and was trying to figure out why they put a Tri Z linkage in of all things.. haha.

Thats a nice machine though. Makes you wonder if its still around someones garage.

Anyone who would part with that bike would be insane. It absolutly has to be sitting in storage somewhere, heck, it might even see sand once in awhile. Just has to.

Now I'm off to work on my 500 some more. Just got a box of goodies from service honda! The rear brake setup is 100% done now, front will be about 90% after tonight, seat pan is getting some additional molding, and the girlfriend is busy tonight. I might be still working on it come 2 or 3 am. HAHA! Trikefest or bust!

Oh and i gota say Service Honda's aluminum ignition cover? So sweet.

Ditto on that one, but we all know that the green glory would walk all over the ATC 500R.

Ive scene that bike in action at glamis alot. Actually Ron even let me sit on it! No lie! He's a great guy and knows his stuff. It is hella fast! It dissapeared from the glamis scene around 97?! But it is on video racing at olds hill on the original rpm sandtrax video. Totally awesome!!! The fuel injection did have its troubles at times but woah when it was dialed in it was tough to beat......

i seen a guy do a kx 500 conversion in a t3 before but he neglected to saddle reinforce the frame and also neglected to remount the bottom mount on the engine after cutting the stock 250 mount tabs off the frame because they were to narrow, and well it was sick fast but the engine all but tore the frame in half lol.

If I ever get back to working on my t4 (yeah i know its a four wheeler lol and it will never take the place of a trike in my heart ) I think i'll post some pics of how i reinforced the frame with chromemoly saddles and how to stop/ repair the egging that occurs in the holes on the frame for the swinger bolt and make them bullet proof for big power,

should work on the t3's as well.

I use chromemoly solid stock to machine out slugs to weld in and use a 1 1/16" hole saw to cut the factory mounts out, debur and use a 15mm drill rod and a special spacer fixture to align and hold the new peices for welding. If anyone needs to do this sort of repair i can walk you through it, just send me a pm, it's a fair amount of work, but ends better than trying to find a new frame or trying to weld in washers that egg back out quickly anyway.

Haha! Ya Biggreen it was an honor! I miss seeing it around!

It had a little influence on my KX500 trike so I got lots of respect for it.

Has anyone talked with Ron to see what ever happened to this trike?

I found the rear axle setup interesting.

Custom made swingarm. OK.

Skat Trak carrier? What's that?

A +2 adjustable Durablue axle that utilizes Suzuki LT250 hubs. A Quadracer stlye axle?

BigGreenMachine

Probably a Quadracer rear end since they went custom with just about everything on the trike.

Cannot get over how sick that trike looks. It would make you think twice about lining up with it.
