The gold on your wheels is just an anodize. It's extemely thin, and will rub thru with a vigorous polishing. Instead, try a clear coat or a waxing.

WD-40 and a clean cloth will bring up your wheels real nice, you can also use it to polish anything else on your bike! it brings up plastics really well, not reccomended on seats and grips though!

" Not recommended on seats"

I was at a NHRA race watching the pro stock bikes. A new crew member for one of the bikers had shined up the seat with WD-40. The guy took off, and fell right off the back of the bike. We heard about that for the whole weekend in the pits. Poor dude got razzed pretty bad. Neither the bike or the rider were damaged much, so it was quite funny. ;) [/quote]

I just spent a lot of time removing the gold from my R wheels. It doesn't come off or wear through that easy! I was using oven cleaner, steel wool, and sand paper.

Because I'm ridding my '85R of gold and blue and I'm way too cheap to buy a polished front wheel to match the 10" polished ITP's on the rear :D . Besides, I have 2 extra gold front wheels.
