GM engine decoding, Who can?

Well, I am towing a car away for a neighbor. Its a 1980 Oldsmobile wagon that came with a diesel engine. But when I opened the hood I noticed it no longer had a diesel engine. It doesnt look like an oldsmobile engine. So does anyone know where to decode the engine number or can anyone do it? Thanks

Oh, here is the engine number. 1241748 (located on back of block)
