Got a pic with a penny or quarter next to the end of the barrel? Without seeing the barrel i'm guessing either a 30/06 or a 308

That right there is a gun. Make sure you are always on the fat side of it, stay away from the skinny side.LOL
All BS aside, hard to tell with out something to go by for reference as far as size. Is there no marking on it at all?

Not that I know of unless its a newer caliber. Maybe your thinking of a .338?

it is infact a conlin .358 winchester.

also sports a hal hartly (not sure about the spelling of the last name) custom stock (tiger maple) and jeweled bolt.

Redfield 4 power scope...

I'll be able to get some pics of the ammo tomorrow.

Anyone ever see something like this?

What do you think it's worth?

Are you looking to sell it? I am looking for something heavier hitting than my 7MM mag for these huge bull elk that are everywhere up here. I didn't think that you could use centerfires back east.

I've got to get it appraised before I consider selling. Anyone know where? or thats honest i should say.

So the .358 packs a punch then? Would it be a good black bear rifle?

I'm not to sure about the ammo. I know it's expensive though. But the ammo is locked in the safe and i can't get in there till tomorrow.

Ya, that should knock the crap out of a black bear, which the taxidermist will not like sewing that hole back up. Its for heavy, bodied animals with tough hide, ie.- elk, buffalo, carabo, grizzly bear, maybe very large mule deer or very large black bear.

Not sure of the value, never heard of a Conlin. There is not alot of .358 calibered rifles around anymore though. The most popular bullet weights fot it are 200 and 220 gr bullets.

How did you come across it?

Here is a picture of one of my big Montana mulies!

Thats all we can use. Who would want to hunt with a .22 anyway?

Holey smokes!!!! that is one big ass mule deer. but you boys out west don't know how to count points! A four by four is a truck over here.

Actually these guns (I also have a 30.06 made by the same guy) have been in our family for a long time.

My father shot this a couple years back with that odd six and the deer fell into a gorge!

Took us a better part of 8 hours to get him back to the truck. He dressed out at around 170 or so. :w00t:

So I guess I can't use the 358 for squirrel hunting next october then?!?! :naughty:

I'm gonna have to do some research on this and see what i can find out.

Ive seen a 270 Winchester magnum blow a squirrel in half, my friend shot it. I imagine a 358 would leave nothing but hair flying.

The little .22's are THE favourite gun of moose poachers in Newfoundand, that and the .303 British because they are so common, shells are cheap, and they do the job. Most times anything bigger is overkill anyhow.

a .22 will work nice on whitetail deer if you shoot them in the head. I have a .358win, Its a lever action, never hunted with it. I have never heard of the guy who built your gun, no Idea what its worth probably 300-800 bucks, who knows it might be worth 5 grand. You can still get ammo for the 358, It would be a good woods gun for deer or black bear, usually uses a 200 gr bullet. I dont think it is very good for anything over 200 yards because it is such a large bullet and has a rather small case. I would take it to a gun show and see what some people have to say about it.

When he said he didn't think states over here allowed centerfires, I think he was refering to places like Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, etc. We can't use centerfire rifles.( rimfire are also illegal) Most deer hunters use shotguns with slugs, or a muzzleloader.
