Well we took the lt200x out Sunday for a romp in our sand pit to see how it preformed and handled. (85 lt 230 frame that we installed a 200x motor in) The quad handled really well. Very fast off the line. Was able to power slide in the turns and make the doubles with no problems except trying to keep the front end on the ground when launching or powering on in the straits. My 15 year old son took it up the hills and did the horseshoe with no problems. I have to change the exhaust because now we have a two stroke 80cc kaw dirt bike pipe on it and it peeks out to quick and is way to loud, but that’s all we had at the time. After about hour of running it hard it threw the chain and dumb me (used a old worn chain for mok up and didn’t put a case saver on it). I fixed the case yesterday and made a case saver for it today and will install it tonight. We both had a great time with it even though we got in trouble when we got back to the house covered in mud and sand LOL. I really need some rear fenders for it. Anybody have a set? I will try to post some pics of the beast tonight.

I too am interested in seeing some pics of this beast. Is it more powerful now than it was with the 230 engine in??

I have some rear fenders. They have some cracks but they are good usable ones. The one side dips down a little in the picture because we had an exhaust sitting on it for about a week.

And as we all like to say :pics: :pics: !

Why the heck did you put a 2 stroke 80cc dirtbike exaust on a 4 stroke 200???? lol

Here are some pics of the quad after the first ride. I still haven't washed it yet but the repairs were made. Ya I know I left a wrench on the foot peg lol didn't see it untill I down loaded the pics. It still has to be tweeked here and there but it's a blast to ride. I don't think the 230 ever moved this fast before
85 1t230 + 86 200x = fun

maybe its just my eyes but it seems like all of us with quadsports have bald rear tires . I wonder why that is?

Yes, I too am noticing a 230 balding problem... must be genetics.. That 230 or 200 I should say looks good, looks like you all had a blast riding it...

I have a question for any exhaust guru's out there. A friend just gave me a super trap silencer with removable plates for this quad and he also gave me a 400ex silencer. witch one would work better for the 200x motor? The super trape is for a two stroke I think. I know that the stock 400ex silencer should let it expire more air but I would like someone else's opinion. Don't want to have to play with the jetting to much. Thanks

dont run it if its a 2 stroke exhaust. Run the EX and see if you even need to bother with jetting.

Does a 2 stroke silencer even work on a 4 stroke?

look at the pics he took. He may have had to MAKE it fit but its on there.

Yeah I was wondering about that. Must sound funky.

Thats a 6-speed motor shoved in there aint it?

Big D
02-09-2006, 11:03 PM
Yes it a six speed 1986 motor, the silencer that I had on it was for a two stroke and it sounded good just way to loud and it peeked out to quick. Sort of stumbled at full throttle. I have started to put the four stroke silencer on it and will see how it is. My son wants to leave the other on on it lol I told him that if it dosen't growl and it runs the same then well think about putting it back on but only after I weld a washer or two in it for some sort of backpressure

Tri-ZNate

the 2 stroke silencer should have all kinds of back pressure. Thats probably why it peaks so fast. If there wasnt alot of backpressure you would have more on top end. Probably running rich too with that much back pressure which makes it stumble.

Thanks for the info. Exhaust and carbs are not my specialty although I can fab them and make them fit. I was wondering when I hold up the two stroke silencer I don't see any baffle just a clear shot right through it? I thought thats why its so loud. I did start to install the four stroke exhaust on it, just have to make a mount for it and will see how it runs.

Ok I put the four stroke silencer on and it runs like crap. Idle was real high and when I got that under control it was sputtering and keeps dying. Can anyone tell me where to start with the fuel mixture screw? It is real pain in the a-- trying to adjust it when its running and stalling when you let go of the throttle.
Thanks

turn it all the way in and then turn it 1.5 turns out, or is it 2.5? Either way that is a good starting point.

Well I figured out what was wrong with the carb. I took it off to clean it and it had some water in it. That’s why it was stumbled no mater what silencer I had on it. LOL It drove me nuts trying to adjust it. I left the 4-stroke silencer on it for now till I get the rear fenders. I might have to reroute the exhaust with them on it. I was going to put a 500 zillar motor in the other lt230 roller we have but I don’t think I will do that. I don’t believe that it would be controllable with that much power and torque after riding this one with the just a 200x motor in it. I will look for a Suzuki 400 frame to put the zillar motor in.
Can anyone tell me how they go with the stock 230 in them? I have another lt230 roller with the stock motor in it but we haven’t done anything with the motor. The motor has the top end taken apart, It’s all there just haven’t messed with it. Just wanted some opinions on it to see if it’s worth putting it back together or not. I bought it that way because I had plans of putting the 500lt motor in it.

Put it back together and when you do put a high comp pistion in there. Then kis that 200x engine good bye.

LOL. I don’t know about that. I think it would smoke a stocker, and the only way one would have a chance would be to do the entire motor over with some serious mods to the cylinder and head. I have no idea if there was anything done to the 200 motor before I got it. It runs great and has lots of compression. I think a lot of the speed and torque is due to the sprockets, the one that came with the 200x and the one that is on the 230. I haven’t counted the teeth yet to see. When you hammer it you have to have your nads just about on the tank to keep it from doing a wheelie in third gear. I learned this the hard way lol I’m getting to old to be sliding on my butt on frozen ground. Getting back to the 230 are they a good motor? I would like it to be dependable so my youngest daughter or my wife will ride it on the trails. I don’t want to do the top end to find out the have a tendency to throw a rod that’s all.

They seem to be very reliable, Mines been ridden alot since I got it running and It still starts on the maximum of 3 kicks no choke. I have not had any major problems, just right now its out of gas. The 230's have quite a bit of power to them, but from what I hear they are choked back quite a bit (exhaust and intake). I dont think you will have any problems with engine reliability here.

My 230 has been reliable though the break in and I havent been easy with it. With my 280lb ass and the 10.25:1 piston it brings it up in 3rd. But I leave running full throttle to my hondas :naughty:

Here are some pics of my son on the lt200x that I took the other day when we went for a ride. We were out for hours on the trails but we did spend some time in the pit before hitting the trails. It was real cold but we had a great time

nice pics. is that your son up there on that side hill?

Big D
02-26-2006, 10:10 AM
Ya thats my son, Once he started riding it I had a hard time getting him off it so I could ride it.LOL We brought his blaster but he put some worn out tires on it because it was all set up for ice racing so he changed the tires just to take it out to the pit.

nice pics, looks like a fun place to romp around in. How hard was it to install the 200x motor into the 230 chassis?

Big D
02-27-2006, 10:02 AM
It wasn’t that hard to install it. We had bought the Lt 230 without the motor with plans to use some parts from it to complete one of our quadzillars. We needed the brake parts and some of the hardware from it. I had the 200x motor from a homemade go cart that I had picked up for the rear rims and tires (realtors with aluminum rims). I didn’t even know what the motor was originally from till Howdy helped in identifying it, thanks Howdy. To make a long story short I had cut up the cart and had the 200x motor on our back porch. The lt230 roller was right out side our back porch waiting to be taken apart. My son was at school and I thought I would place the motor in the frame to see if he noticed it when he got home. When he came home and I was at work and he had started to measure and mark out the frame where the new mounts will go. Well la the project was born LOL We made the rear mounts from some flat stock steel that I had. We used the some of the stock motor mounts from the 230 for the front mounts. Made sure that the chain would run true and the carb was level then welded the rear mounts to the frame. Change the throttle cable and made a front exhaust pipe for it from a 225dx take off. We changed the wiring harness cdi, coil and handle bar switches. Once we had started to assemble it we had it together in a couple of hours (except making the rear mounts) and were riding in the yard. I bought the rear fenders from 250sxwheeliepop so when they come in we will have to move the exhaust then it should be completed I have plans to extend the swing arm then strip it down completely to paint it and replace anything that is needed to make it stand out from the rest. I have another lt230 roller that I am undecided what we are going to do with it. Maybe a zillar motor or maybe a 250r air motor just to play with it??

very nice my two favorite quads blaster and a quadsport nice. That place looks super fun to ride in got one like that near my house except its gravel!
