Oh boy. Well I'm 6' 4", 260 lbs and after lifting all summer and gaining quite a bit of strength, I think my max was around 230 (240 might have been my one-rep max.. I can't remember and I can't find my lifting log..) before school started and I didn't have any more time to lift. I fully plan to start lifting ASAP, though. I don't think I'm doing bad for 15 years old.. lol (goin on 16! YEA!)

when i was 12 last summer i was helping my dad in the oilfield and was carrying 30ft. 3in. pipe around to work out and help him.i think i'll be benching 185lbs. by the end of the summer.

firefirefire90
02-28-2006, 11:36 PM
I doubt you will bench 185 by the end of the summer doing a full touch your chest bench press. But ok to try I guess. My maximum bench press was 210 but i am sure it could have been better. I am 6'2" 188lbs(weigh in today). But really, what good is bench without squats? Oh and i am 16 by the end of March..so i guess that is good? :wondering:

Yeah bench press is overrated, but isnt that what all the skinny guys say?haha. Lets see, when I was 17 was the last time I worked out regularly for B-ball. I was 6'3" (with shoes on, who plays B-ball in socks?) 175lbs and did the 220 workout. But I tested at 203lbs I think. Squats and Hang cleans is all the football guys cared about.

i do reps of dumb bell bench at 130, i dont know what i could max barbell at. I like dumbbells better for excercises because it helps all your small muscles as well These are usually the ones that keep your joints working properly, and minimize injuries. just an idea for you. oh yea, i'm 5'10 185 right now.

I'm 6'3" close to 200 lbs, and I start my workout with 150lbs and keep adding 20 lbs every 15-20 reps until I max out around 220. I've never tried to do a max weight 1 lift, but I'm pretty sure I could hold 260 in the air. I'm 16 and been lifting on and off (pretty much all on until I started getting 66% averages in classes and spent all night lifting, now I get 80's-90's and lift mostly light workouts before I hit the bed and on weekends) since I was about 12

Keep on lifting and working out man, you don't get in trouble with the police or get into street fights from spending time at the gym. I worked out insted of doing drugs like alot of people I know. I'm alot happier than they are now.

I havent been to the gym in 4 years, but i worked at a concrete foundation and floor company all summer. The other night while at my friends place we got in an argument about something stupid do we settled it on the bench. I put up 225 cold, no warm up and half in the bag. Needless to say i lost the argument.

I've been lifting for several years and I graduated with a B.S. in Pysical Science because I wanted to work in the physical fitness world. If your 13 and benching 155, that's pretty good. Not trying to sound like a party pooper, but you should be careful lifting at a young age. Your bones and joints are still growing and you could do damage to them easily.

cant you stunt your growth from lifting at a early age?

Yes, but only with heavy lifting. Any coach or physical instructer should be able to put together a program for a young lifter.

I'll tell you what TRI Z RACER, i would rather have work muscles any day of the week. Me and a good buddy who dropped out of college started wrestling around last weekend and he was literally throwing me around with one arm. We weigh within 2 lbs of each other. Lifting muscles are great and all, but its no comparison to the real ones.

What is the 220 workout?

Ive been working out for about 3 mos strong. I could care less about a max bench. But what your repping is pretty important imo. I rep 255lbs 4 sets of 7. I try to hit heavier weight and less reps because it builds muscle mass. Im a skinny doggie and i need the mass. Ive gained 20lbs in 3mos just working out. I recommend lifting weights to everyone who rides. When im in good shape like i am now. I throw my bike around instead of it working me. I way 195 and im 6'3".

03-01-2006, 05:20 PM
The 220 workout is just a 10,8,6...2 workout that if you complete it you SHOULD be able to do max bench of 220lbs. Its pretty deceiving. I could do the workout but I couldnt bench that much. 4 sets of 255 is pretty awesome man. My cousin used to hold the bench record at my old high school of 395lbs. Just imagine garageboy x 5 haha.

The guy that I lifted with over the summer is 45 years old, and he has been lifting since he was about 14. He used to lift with all of his friends from school, but they stopped lifting with him when they got to be about 20 because they all got jobs. Well he has started going downhill as far as lifting is concerned, but he can still bench 375 (he can do it 3 times). He told me one day when we were lifting that his max when he was in his lifting prime was 420. My jaw dropped to the floor. You don't think that 375 is a very impressive number when you see it on paper, right? Well you get a whole new respect for that number after you see it on the bar!

I can bench 12oz. Sometimes on a really hot day I can bench a couple of pounders. I used to be able to bench a half rack but that was 30 years ago. (Just kidding). I have never even tried to lift weights. My son used to be pretty good. All I know is that he can lift me over his head and I weight 185.

That's exactly how I feel. Kinda like arm wrestling....the muscles you use doing that are the most unused muscles in the body. Pointless if you ask me.

But anyways...3 years ago, I was benching 285 lbs. I was 6'4" and 275lbs at the time.

Nothing wrong with staying in shape.. nothing wrong with working out. But just trying to get big numbers is pretty lame. If you're thighs and calve muscles are not up to par you are just a top heavy bowling pin that can lift heavy stuff when on your back. Work muscles = real muscles.

And in these two situations see how the two are different.

Situation 1

Considerably Hot Chick: Wow... Your muscles are really big.. Do you work out?
You: (totally honestly) Yes... I spend several hours a day at the gym for the sole purpose of impressing people like you. I drive a toyota with power steering and I work at an office answering telephone calls.

Situation 2 (you work at a farm shoveling horse manure and pushing wheel barrows full of cattle kidney stones uphill.)

Considerably Hot Chick: Wow... Your muscles are really big.. Do you work out?
You: (totally honestly) No.

To all those talking about "working muscle" instead of "gym muscle", I know what your talking about. My family farms and my dad has worked on things and carried parts that his hired hands couldn't begin to budge. But if you lay him on a bench his lift is not to impressive, and his handshake could crush your d@mn hand:lol: .

In a fight, I perfer to be decent strength and quick and in a full rage over big and bulky. Never had my ass kicked yet and don't plan on it. This is interesting.....To some city kids lifting is a way they can get the same workouts that the country kids are getting. I was a city kid but worked out on a farm whenever I could. I have lifted for approximately 16 years. I used to think the motor-heads in school were lame. Not true.....If I could go back I'd have a healthy mix of recreational vehicular fun and still lift my ass off. I'd be farther ahead then I am now just getting into atc's and would have had more fun! Speed and coordination are great if you have it or can get it through training. For the uncoordinated slow guys like me lifting is the difference between playing or sitting. Now as far as strength is concerned leg power is king in football for sure. Repitition helps tons too. Anyone out there remember Tony Manderich? The guy the packers drafted instead of Barry Sanders :-(........I think he bench pressed 225 41 or 42 times. I was amazed at that until during lifting tests in college I witnessed one of my teammate at 6' 5" and 280 lbs bench press 225 for 51 times. If you guessed that he was on the same regimen of suppliments that some of the baseball players of today are on you would surley be correct. I am sure he is regretting his supplement taking now a days after the side effects have wreeked havoc on his body. Anyway I am 6' 5" and weigh approximately 225 depending on the time of year. At that weight I have benched 225 for 37 reps and 315 for 19 reps. *CLEAN/Drug free* Remeber the amount of work you can do over time (repitition) will generally win over the one rep max. So maybe how many times can you do whatever is a better question. And make sure you lift legs or like some have stated, you will look like an idiot or you will always where pants cause you know you have chicken legs. :-) Thats all I guess. Sorry if I rambled. I was doing my taxes and this was a good healthy break. But now I feel like lifting..........
