Well my father has an 02 honda 400ex and my girlfriend LOVES that thing. It's fast, electric start, and dependable. My question is, what kind of quad should i get for her? I'm looking to trade/ sell some stuff to get one for her hopefully before trikefest. $800 -$1000 is about the absolute max i can go (I havent been working a whole lot lately). I want something preferrably with electric start, honda, but will consider a yamaha, or something else, 200-400 cc, sport, or utility. We love goin mudding and going fast also. I just dont really know what kind of used/cheap/ good quads are out there. Any ideas would be great. And she can handle the 400ex just fine, so dont worry about that.

i'd really really hate too but if i find a good enough deal, i might be willing to trade/ sell my 89 lt500 quadzilla.

Well, according to your signature, you've already got just what you are seeking...

The perfect quad for your girl is one that A) you already own B) costs you no money out of pocket and C) only has THREE wheels...lol

Just put her on the 250SX that is not currently undergoing work. Problem solved.:TrikesOwn

And i did forget she rolled the 400ex about a month and a half ago. She was out at my dads old place, cut a corner too much and caught about a 5 inch tree with the back tire, rolled her right over. Luckily she was ok. But i think she learned from it. lol

Just wait around for a cheap 400ex then. Or maybe you can find a cheap quadracer 250r or $1000. That seams reasonable around here. A lt250r will have more balls than a 400ex.

Yeah Just wait and get Her a 400ex or see if you can buy that one 400ex off your dad. Their a great quad and their are tons of upgradable parts to buy so you dont need to worry about it getting slow or anything. You can also look at getting a Yamaha Raptor 350 or Warrior 350, their basically the same quad but their pretty slow untill you Jet and put a pipe on them.

i started my wife on a warrior.well actually she started on a 225dx trike, but the first quad was a warrior.they have eletric start, reverse, and a real heavy front end.that will give her some help on hillclimbing.plus, they are cheap and almost bulletproof.and they are not as fast as a 400ex,but the reverse is good to have for her and they just are very stable to ride.just my 2 cents.finding a 400ex for a 1000 bucks will be hard to do.but a mid 90s warrior that needs tlc will be easier to find for that price also.

HAHA screw it just get her a tiger 500 or an ATC500R!!!
But I would recomend a 300ex or 400ex. Since the 450r came out 400ex's have been going cheap because everyone wants to upgrade..... But $800-$1000......That might be a tough one. Why don't you just give her your 200x????;)

Because the 200x is one of those 85 money pits! I had howdy change the kick starter gears awhile back and now it wont go into neutral unless it is turned off and you shift it by hand (takes a minute or two to find neutral). Last i tried i couldnt get it started either. I mean it looks great, it just has issues and i dont really want to mess with it.

Do you guys think that my 89 quadzilla with an extra set of fenders and seat would be worth trading for a 400ex? I've been thinking and....well the quadzilla is fast... but i'm not all that into suzuki's and it just sits out here anyway and never gets rode.

Kevin, As I told you and your dad before: Bring that 200x back to me. I will figure out the problem and get it fixed. It has to be something simple.

FYI, I just fixed Seadoo's wifes 200x 10 days ago ( 3WW username: girlsride2 ). It had a shifting issue and the shift lever was welded on. I was able to locate and fix the problem ( and even a few more unknown problems ) while they waited.

I didnt mean to bad talk you if thats what you are thinking. srry about that. the kick starter works good and you fixed that problem. i'm sure something little just got knocked loose or turned wrong. It's probablly one of those no-brainer type things. I might bring it down there once i have some cash in the bank (who knows when that will be).

You may want to look into a 300ex. Reverse, electric start, and they aren't that much slower than a 400ex. Maybe a blaster? I know it is a ickstart but have you ever ridden one? With a couple of mods they are quite peppy. Plus they are real light and parts are all over for them. Same goes for the 300ex though.
