The best choice is ford, the next best is that it's a ranger. Good job.

That is a great truck to buy. My first truck was a 84 Ranger. I beat it to hell and back. My first wreck I hit a wooden telephone pole then drove it 25 miles home. After getting home and looking over the damage I realized my radiator either fell off on my way home or it was still on the pole.

It came with bench seats but I wanted bucket seats so I grabs some out of the junk yard and put wood and screws in to hold it down. :w00t: It did not work especially going around turns.:w00t: :w00t: At one time it had 23 cloths hangers holding it together. It was deffently a REDNECK truck. To this day it is still on the rode. With about 250,000 miles. I still talk with the lady who bought it.:beer Great Truck buy it will last you forever. Trust me!!!!

I have $6K, my dad paid $3K and my step dad paid another $3K, but you have to remember that now adays the expensive thing isn't the vehicle, it's the gas and insurance!!! And guess who is going to pay 100% on both of those.......me. I'm not complaining at all I'm just stating it for the record. Insurance for teen guys is through the roof.....:(

hahaha you bet!!!:w00t: :beer
It gets 15mpg city and 19mpg highway. I'm glad I got the 4.0L so that I can tow trailers and such. I'm sure over the summer I'll be driving way up north haul'in the ATV/C's. Good to have that big 6 cylinder! Also with a standerd you can get even more power from the motor so I'm defiantly happy I round her!!!

Here's what my Ford looked like when I got it and what i looks like now. Its got the 5.7 V-8 and loves gas stations. I think it only gets around 10 mpg. I have a Toyota pickup that is my daily driver.

I completely understand what your saying, but my parents insisted that I have a truck that I wouldn't be dumping money into to fix it's issues. Plus like i said, I have to pay gas, registration and insurance, over the next 5 years those things will make the $6K they put in seem almost miniscule I'm sure.....

Thats pretty poor milage for a V6, i can't believe the companies can get away with making vehicles that are so bad on gas. Nice truck though, hope you enjoy it.

We traded our '01 Ranger extended cab XLT v6 in a few months ago on an '05Durango with a Hemi.

It's strange not having a Ranger now because I've owned Rangers since 1991! I bought an '86 that year. It didn't have an air conditioner. That would kill me now-a-days! I was 17 and it was my first vehicle purchase. Then in late 1992 I bought a brand new 1993 model (my first new vehicle purchase) and drove it until 2001 when I traded it in on the '01 Ranger. The 1993 had 209,000 miles on it and I put all but 20 on it. I also owned other vehicles during those years, but that little ranger was always my main vehicle. I had to put a new clutch in it at 160,000 miles. Somewhere around 190,000 the timing belt broke and I replaced it. When it was under warranty I had a starter replaced and the air conditioner worked on. One of the coil packs went out on it one time. That's about it for repairs over all those years. I wrecked it twice, fell asleep one night and ran off a culvert and smashed into some trees. $4500 damage and it was 9 months old. Luckily no frame damage so it went back together perfectly. Then when it was 5 years old I hit a yearling bull one night that ran out in front of me. Seem's like it was about 4 grand damage then too. Figured it was totaled that time, but insurance again payed to have it fixed because no frame damage. It was a bullet proof little pickup and didn't use any oil when I traded it in. Now, I wish I would have kept it and just bought the 01. Aside from the accidents, I took GREAT care of it and it served me well. Oh yeah, it was a 2.3 4 cylinder 5 speed, single cab XLT. And for years got 30-32 MPG.

My '01's clutch master cylinder (5 speed) went out at 50,000 miles which pissed me off. You have to pull the tranny to fix that. Other than that it was good little pickup and I traded it at 70,000 miles.

Nice truck. I personally prefer the Tacoma or Frontier for little trucks... but Rangers aren't bad at all.

Hopefully you won't have any problems with it... and good luck with that insurance... lol

I can't beleive that most of these small pickups only get 15/19 mpg. Most seem to have 4ltr v-6's or very close to it. My full size pickup with 320 hp get 19 on the highway, most of the guys I work with drive full size pickup sand they also get in that same mpg range.

Gas and insurance are the reason I sold my ranger, I hated working all summer just to throw half of it away to the insurance company. I had an '86 that I sold last fall, great truck and when I start looking for another cage I would like another ranger but for now I am sticking with my bike. The Ranger was $1600 a year to insure and got 18-20 mpg; my Yamaha is $120 a year to insure and gets 40-45 mpg.
