G'day people, having some problems clearing land of small brush like alders and thorn bushes.

I'm looking for some ideas on what I can make to drag behind a 4x4 quad to tear down and rip up some of this junk. Any other ideas on what I can use?

Indeed, I have one but its not worth the scrap its made from. I'm goin to price what a bulldozer is per hour to have work on it. I'd only need him to level a couple spots.

Does your little bombi have a PTO on it? some do, I would get a PTO rotary brush cutter , or a chain flail pull type (they use 'em on pipeline / powerline right of ways) and drag it behind the bombi, or rent the self powered type of rotaries and do it that way.

Our lil Bomb isn't up to snuff for dirt plowing yet and the tow behind rig for the quad is what I plan on doing. Spiked piece of 4x4 steel tubing filled with dirt and lined with rakelike spikes. lol

I walk through with a machete( home made lol) and then use the 200 and tramp it over alot. But if you have a big area, then I cant help ya there.

The tow behind rough cutters for atv / small tractors with 12 HP Honda motors won't do the job if your cutting more than 1.5 in diameter they just destroy themselves, ok for reeds cattails and slough edges not good for willow, poplar etc unless its really small.
I'd just go stomp it with the bombi and spray it with "Round up" afterwards.

Heres what I spent my Friday night at. It'll roll and the leading edges of the spike will be sharpened. The biggest of the brush is 1cm thick. I've been running it all down with the quad for hours but its so springy that it just beds down and comes up again. I think when this thing gets rolling through it they won't last long.

The Bombardier isn't set up to handle pushing dirt/sod right yet.

I'm making a small MX track for me and the buds.

I've been told to drag a section of chain link fence behind this thing to level what remains. Sounds like a great idea but I can't find any fencing.

take the 4x4 quad, put it in 4 wheel drive and simply run over the brush, I have cleared over an acre doing this.

I've been running the stuff over on quad but most of it is so flexible it just beds down instead of cracking.

Thanks MichiganRedneck, I still need to clean up the welds but its solid with the old stick welder. Get rid of my trusty old Vans? Never! lol

Finished it up today and tested it out. It doesn't work worth a dam for tearing up anything but earth. lol Been driving over all the trees and junk with the Kodiak but it would take forever to tramp it all down.

Any more ideas?

Wipe it out with the bombi, nothing escapes the tracks on that thing when your in turn mode, then spray it with ROUNDUP you won't see a leaf for 2 years.

Darrel I think your right bud. Need to get over there with it some day the week if I can. The cleets on it will more then do the job and the plow should work to push up the lips for some jumps.

Man what a waste of a day. Around 1pm I got to work on my brush cutter, cleaning up the welds, filling it with sand and mounting it up to the bike. Stretched the chain out and welded all the links together so it was all solid. Works for tearing soil but its useless in the trees and crap on the meadow. Time to get the J5 over there. Pics, sorry for the quality. lol

More pics of the rest of the land tomorrow. Like I said I really need to get the J5 over there to mulch the alders and crap that have this once grassy meadow taken over. May be able to use the plow to start on some jumps too. Hopefully I can get at that on Saturday.

You Should Try your little spiky dealy with a couple bolts weled on the end and the chain loops around them so it rotates!.......But them bush;s there are definarly gona need a chainsaw.......lol

BigGreenMachine
04-24-2006, 10:45 PM
It already has steel roundstock on the ends and the chainlinks on over it. It spins nice and freely. lol

Yeah I agree but the chainsaw gets hung up in the grass down low and stalls out.

Bombardier J5 is going to be called into use soon I believe.

Want to clear it quickly, burn it. Want to have alot of fun doing it? Get a shotgun and start shooting it all down!!! Or, get a set of branch trimmers, a shovel, and alot of hard work and have a ball! lmao

Yeah if I can't get the J5 over there I'll be grabbing the shears and a ho/pickaxe and going at it.
