View Full Version : Trikefest 2007: Raffling off another machine.....

The Raffle trike for Trikefest2006 was a HUGE success!! So we want to do it again for 2007.

This time we are looking for input ( from the 3WW users ) on what type of 3 wheeler we should find and raffle off for Trikefest 2007. We want to get started on the search for a machine right away. The twist is we want your guys / gals input of what make and model you would like us to see raffled off. So Give us your input!!
We will take input for a couple weeks and then do up a poll of the machines submitted.

We do have to have some guidelines though. It must be a Factory mass produced machine.

My 2 submittions are
1) 1985 or 1986 Honda 350x
or
2) 1985-1986 Polaris Scrambler 250r/es 3 wheeler

Give us your input on what you would like to see us raffle off.

I would go with a scrambler just because they are rarer.

how about a sport model next year? there alot more appealing to the majority and might be easer to find.

Dammit!

Definitely a sport trike. What model I guess depends on what can be found in your area for the best deal since I assume you're the one taking care of it.

If things go well for me in the next few months I may be able to powdercoat it for you for free. Can't commit to that right this second though. Would be real cool if the raffle trike was fixed up real nice and minty looking.

Lets build a nice 200X. That would be a nice user friendly trike for the 1st time sport rider, plus it has alot of potential for upgrades. Who doesn't need a nice little trail trike in their fleet!! Parts should be easy to find along w/ some cool aftermarket stuff.

JUST AN IDEA

I second that Idea....Sport Trike. R or X would be nice. Without makin myself look real cheap...I didn't buy a chance on the Red. I would have just sold it cheap if I HAD won it. If there is a 350X, 200X or 250R up next time...I will buy a couple chances. (BTW, instead of buying the ticket...I donated a bit EXTRA to the site ;) )

I think Dammit! is on to something, if ya get one...I can donate some polishing. I'm sure there are others on here that would be happy to donate something to the project.

Get it rolling.

Dammit & Speedbump, This is Exactly why we want to get started now. We want to get a nice machine and then fix it up to as nice of condition as possible. Maybe even add some nice accessories ( possibly some hard to find ones ) to make it more appealing.

The venerable old 200X is my choice.

I'm on the 200x wagon too! I might have to buy a few tickets for a machine like that.

Here's another idea for ya Howdy. Work on getting some sponsorship. Contact Maier, Clarke, maybe a tire manufacturer, Uni or K&N etc etc etc. And try to convince them to sponsor the event by way of products for giveaways/prizes for competitions and donating parts for the raffle trike. Put together a promotional package, find out who the PR person is at these companies and mail it to them. That will be much more effective than a simple e-mail or phone call. Send them a package, wait a couple weeks, THEN call.

I bet Maier could be talked into a full set of 200x plastics (maybe some blems, throw that idea at them). I think at least one of you guys already has a contact at Clarke for a plastic tank. Maybe contact Hi-Flite for a seat cover or something. You get the idea. A lot of companies will do things like this just for the cheap advertising (include their logos on the trikefest flyers, ask for some banners to display at trikefest, ask for free shirts and stickers and all that). It's incredibly cheap advertising for them. Stress that in addition to the hundreds of people there in person, THOUSANDS see the images, movies and dvds. I think we could get some support and between that and the people here, there could be a very sweet trike raffled off next year with minimal expense so more money towards maintaining and improving the site. I guarantee a LOT more people will buy tickets for a sweet 200x than an OK shape Big Red. ;)

We also need to make a group effort to get some support from these aftermarket companies and this could be a good way to start. We need to let the ones that still support trikes know they're appreciated and that we use their products not only on our trikes but quads and dirtbikes as well (brand loyalty, they love that) and we need to show the ones that stopped production that there's still a market for this stuff.

Lets make a list of possible companies to contact.

Maier
Clarke
ITP
Durablue (long shot but who knows)
Hi-Flite
Ceet
K&N
Uni
Webcams
Wiseco
D.I.D.
Renthal
Barnett
Keihn
Mikuni
Douglas Rims

I'm sure there's plenty more I'm not thinking of.

And I preach this at every oppurtunity so here I go again. Advertising banners are NOT the devil (just as long as they aren't pop-ups... pop-ups ARE the devil, lol). Selling advertising on the forums and main site not only generates revenue for the site and it's events, it also gives you an avenue to show advertisers (read; aftermarket companies) that there is a trike market. They can track the hits they get from here. It can send a powerful message $$$. This site is not Consumer Reports. The idea of not selling advertising to remain impartial makes absolutely no sense.

I agree with the idea of a sport trike, especially the 200x, makes a good first rider for a beginner and a fun trail bike for an experienced rider. I also wanted to say that if you do go with the 200x, I may have a few parts I can donate; nice clean straight frame, forks, tripple trees, etc. Let me know

250R, 350X, 200X, Tri-Z, T3...any sport trike would be cool.

Lomax
06-19-2006, 01:48 PM
I would say the 200X because of parts availiblity, price to build, (if thats the route) and if someone "entry level" wins that machine then they dont have there hands full with the power of a 2-stroke or the torque of a 350. I will donate some parts to the cause. I have an 85 model frame at Billy's house that nice or I have a nice 84 model here as well. I have some other stuff laying around as well.

Probably a good idea Lomax.

200x is a good all around trike that many people could be happy with. Ladies, younger riders, older riders that don't want a screaming fast ride, or anyone in between.

(and as Seadoo and Girlsride2 have proven, a 200X CAN haul some serious butt!!)

I have a 200x engine I will donate. The cam chain tensioner arm is broke in it. Could use piston and rings also.

The current status is this: We don't have a machine yet. One user said he was donating a machine before ( 2-3 months ago ), but so far they haven't come through.
We may end up raffling off one of my P3's or a 350x.

If you do end up with a 200x, i have another Powroll Race camshaft and a spitshined carb that could be a donation if ya'll need them.

I have a couple 200x frames if you end up deciding to a frame up build with donated parts. Never did get my powdercoating stuff setup and at this point it looks like it might not happen at all but I could at least donate a frame if it's needed. I might have a few other parts as well but I'd have to look.

How about an '86-'87 200x? They're a bit sportyer than the 83-85 years, and a 6 speed tranny! Thats what im talking about! Lol, i just wish there was some way i could make it out to trikefest!

I say we raffle off a Tiger 500!!!! :w00t:

But seriously, I think either a 350X or 86-87 200X would be best.....

Levithan
09-17-2006, 04:34 PM
Yea, the 83-85 years are nice, but they arent as performance as the rest. At least the 86-87 200x would have some flexablility with the rider, so they wouldnt feel like they had "outgrown" the bike as much as you would on an 83-85. Do i make any sense?

firefirefire90
09-17-2006, 07:01 PM
you cannot really mod out a 86/7 200x as you can a 83-85 200x.

Any trike would be cool. Especially if you get it for the price of a raffle ticket..
