I dont know about a 351 but I know a guy that did a 302 swap into a ranger and made it work without a whole lot of problem if I remember right.

My brothers got a ranger and he knows alot about them, but he learned it all from this forum, so give it a try. www.rangerpowersports.com

I think you would be better off with a 351w for size, but I am pretty sure either will fit, its just whether or not you can do anything to it after its in. ie... change the sparkplugs.

The cleavelands are wider than Windsors right? I think youd be better off with a Windsor. Headman makes swap headers that clear nicely. THe pass side collector is too close to the I beam though. Use motor mounts from a 90 Mustang convert. They set the motor lower in the bay. Get a dual sump oil pan and oil filter relocation kit. Notch out the heaterbox and get a radiator from a 90 Explorer with A/T and A/C. Direct bolt in.
I had an 88 Ranger with a carb 5.0 and AOD from an early 80s Lincoln. Very fun truck!
As said, go to www.rangerpowersports.com
www.therangerstation.com are both great sites. TRS inspired me to do the v8 swap. RPS inspired me to put a 2.3 Turbo in an 87 Ranger supercab I had. Both were very fun projects!

MTS -- long bed has it together on this one --- 351 W is the motor of choice with the double sump and remote oil filter, custom fab the inner fenders or you gotta pull em every time you do a plug change. we did an 84 4X4 ranger with this conversion and had to do a lift of 2.5 inches to get everything to fit correctly , but it was very interesting to say the least, Have fun if you do it, its a tramp to keep on the road, we ended up on 255 / 50 series BFG radial TA street tires to get enough rubber down to make it steer.

I'd go with the 5.0 \m/

I built a pinto with a 302 years ago. Was actually a pretty easy swith, reversed the trans mount and bolted the c4 right in, used a 66 mustang rear end which fit perfect with 60's w/o any w/w mods. Made my own motor mounts from 1/4" plate and had the driveshaft cut and balanced. Quite a bit more room in a ranger so it should be a cakewalk.

The 302/351 is the most common swaps for the Ranger. Now, people are starting to use the 4.6L and 5.4L from the F150's.

www.advanceadaptors.com has everything you need for this swap. Engine mounts, tranny mounts and adapters, higher capacity radiators, oil filter bracket, oil pans, headers to clear the tight spaces, higher capacity fuel pumps, etc...etc...

Just go to their online catalog, and its on pages 50-53
