finally got the winch mounted but we need a new battery, this is the old one from my truck. It ran out of battery half way up.

WE still need to work out a few kinks, and it should work great.

We only put the 125 on there to test it out, this will be for the Yamahauler

I want to do something like that for my storage building. I have a friend who has a steel framed elevator in his huge garage to lift all his trikes up to the upstairs floor. He said his will lift 750lbs. Nice set up

this has a 2000lb winch and 3000 lb cable. The most i would lift with this is 1000 just to be safe. never will have to lift that much though. We are looking for a power invertor now so we dont need a battery. It would be much easier.

That winch was only $70!

Nice idea. Looks like it needs some re-enforcement to keep it from swaying when you are working on it though...

You should see the setup we currently have. It's a 110v hoist simular to this one below.
When we started the shop we used a 12volt winch simular to yours, but once we found this hoist we have never looked back. We even made a set up to where we can take it down ( under 2 minutes ) and use it on our trailers ( for lighter duty jobs ). For remote power ( while using it on the trailer ) we sit a generator in the bed of the truck. You can't beat a good winch!!

Here is a simular winch:

Here is a 440/880lb capacity one on ebay for $70 plus shipping.

The book for the winch says it draws 90 amps at full load (2000lbs) and at 500lbs (we are lifting less than 500) it draws 25 amps. Can you run just a battery charger that is more than 25 amps and not use a battery at all

Ok you sick puppy you.......

Battery chargers will usually peak out and overload "BREAK" after extended periods------A cheap trickle charger on that battery will keep it charged and ready for use. The inverter Idea sounds good , But the idea behind homemade projects is " Cost Efficient" ( I prefer not to use the word Cheap!).... Way cool hoist though!
