How hard is it to convert an old dirtbike into a trike. what all do you have to change.

i have been looking at a 85 kx250 frame and it will be a lot of work to do it right.

I'd really like to see some input on this thread. What's all the work?

It seems as though we're only talking about overcoming two major obstacles; (1) mounting an axle on a custom swing arm and (2) installing a trike front end on the motor bike frame.

Once the trike is "roughed in", you can work on the brakes and other small details.

What am I missing? Does anyone have any pictures of a converted dirtbike?

I could see a converted RM250 sitting in my shop now. :) Black and yellow.

i dont think it would be "too" much work to convert one, make or take an existing swing arm and conver it over, you would have to narrow the piviot point to fit to the size of the big frame and just have a wider axel to compensate, then widen the tripples to acomodate the larger tire, dosent seem horribly hard to me....but i could be wrong lol

i dont think it would be much work all you need is a trike or quad rear suspension. with a little fabricating you could make a wider pivot point for the swingarm and a shock mount if you need to then you would need to put a trike front end on it. then you just need to do some cutting and fitting to fit the rear fenders.

It wouldn't be extremly hard to do....but I haven't done a conversion. LOL Yeah, you would have to have a complete axle and swingarm and a trike front tire, and all the little detail pieces. I am actually thinking about doing this to a 98' Husqvarna cr50 I have. The only thing I am worried about is the rear fenders and seat. I could just remove the rear dirtbike fender and not worry about it. :wondering

i would think all you would have to do is... put a 4 wheeler swing arm on it....and put a 3wheeler front end on it....or a custum front end

Yea, if Lou can do it to a CR500, I guess that means it can also be done to a KX500 or YZ490 or any bike really. I guess people just concentrate on the CR500 because Honda had the most popular line of trike's or something.

you will need a custom rearend, widened triple trees, and a lot of patience

if your doing it on a 50 you could adapt some small quad rear fenders to it.

Some bikes would be crapy because they would have just a little too much rake in them.

hey, the tripples are the hard part, either trike or custom, maybe combo, depends on the bike.
