Good timing for the seller. Drtdogs parted with some major cash.

I spoke to a motocross collector who showed me these auctions....apparently the stuff was pretty rare and there are some BIG time MX collectors for that era out there

What is a complete mint bike worth? Wouldn't you be putting a $2000 dollar tank on a $3000. bike? Doesn't sound right to me.

look at it this way though.. if we all had the money and we wold pay the $2175 that the n.o.s. 86 350x fenders went for, If it was the only peice that we needed to finish our restoration. When i sniped the n.o.s. toolbox lid for the big red 250 my high bid was $500 and thats for a $41 peice of plastic. i know that it was a crazy high bid but it was he only part i did not have.

That wasnt just a personal observation I got the inside scoop on alot of these collectors direct from one of them...One of the collectors of these bikes owns 5500- 18 wheelers in his shipping company....now thats some net worth$$$$

Yes, vintage MX is big among collectors, and there are some high dollar guys out there. I know of one that has made it his mission to own pretty much one of every model of MX bike ever produced in the '70s, in mint or restored condition. Bikes that I've never even heard of or seen, he has them and they look like they are brand new. NOS parts for these old MXers are not just scarce, but extinct. Trike parts will eventually suffer the same fate. The question is will there be as much collector interest in the trikes as there is in the MXers.

From what I have seen in the past 3 or 4 years, I would say there will be more ATC collectors in the game than vintage MX collectors. Maybe I am not seeing the big picture, but trikefest paints the image that trikes are gonna be big (yesterday, today and tomorrow). Look at what comes to trikefest every year: OEM restores - tricked dragsters - sick MXer's to really nice stock non-molested trikes that are everyday rides. I think we have a while before parts are depleted like the old MX bikes - you can still get most parts for 1970's models ATC(US)90s (excluding tires) I see them on Ebay everyday.

I agree with ATC Tim - the 3's will be worth ton's

Hey Bill,
You must have talked to Chip Watkins , Yea he is one of the big players in the motocross world. I have seen him buy a NOS Kill switch for $700 . these guys dont have a budget , In fact i am doing a 75 CR125m elsinore for a guy in NJ right now , going to be a showroom bike when done he has 6 he wants me to do , one after another . thats what i have noticed with restoring the motocross bikes. I think the 3 wheeler market is on the rise though we are a good ten years behind the Vintage Motocross guys . Cool stuff .

OK buckwheat.....I am definetly not money driven but it is a better feeling when you spend over 5 thousand on each machine you rebuild to make it right that there is a possiblity you might get SOME back some day...Is that money driven....no...its called hope for the addicted
