Ran across these photos. I think it was called a Missile kit--or something like that. Sort of like a bad azzz Big Wheel or Fat Cat. Anyone know anything about these conversions?

I like having three wheels on my ATC just fine but I bet one of these would be a hoot in the dunes....

I looked at a swingarm & rear hub set-up on Ebay a couple years back, I shoulda bought It. That thing would be so sweet at the dunes, I want one bad.

my old boss at the cycle shop has one,,We re-welded the swinger to take the jack shaft off and re-worked the rear rim so thats it now just like a dirt bike set up... way better LOTS OF FUN!!!!

What do they ride like? I've heard different stories. Some say fine, others say they handle like total crap, they won't go in a straight line.

I saw a pair of Yamaha Big Wheels at China Wall (ISDRA) several weeks ago. One was a 200. The other was a 350 but didn't sound like a normal Big Wheel. Closer inspection revealed a YZ426 engine mounted up. He had some oversized paddle on it similar to the above 250r. She was a runner!

they handel ok.. I guess for what they are,I was catchin some good air on it,the only thing that sucked for me is that my knees would hit the bars when i would turn cuz ya have to sit up on it like a dirt bike not like a trike..

are you kidding? they handle awesome...me and my friend busted his fatcat out after 10 years of sitting, i cleaned the carb and changed the oil cleaned the tank and we beat it around, it is MINT for real, looks brand new. you can lay them down so far in burms it is unreal almost horizontal.those stock tires have some nice lugs along the sidewall....i would love to see one pumped up with some nasty old school x parts on the motor...

Hey Aussie, You think you could build that rear plastic? It probly would'nt be real hard to build a swinger like that. The drive hub might be a challange. I printed out a close up of the set-up I saw on ebay cause I was real Interested In having one. That ting just looks so cool. Especially with that 10 paddle on Er.

got a few questions bout these.... firstttt... were they made for 200x's perhaps??? and was the fatcat nearly identical (in regards to the frame and engine) to a 200x??? if so could you take the swinger and drivehub and put it on a 200x????

and.... with a paddle and running in the sand, wouldn't that kick ALOT of sand up across the engine causing somewhat of a sandblaster effect?

idn maybe i have no idea what i'm talking about.. but i try :)

Honda fatcats suck in the handling and supinsion the yamaha bigwheel is WAY better than the honda more power and better handling. the honda likes to slide out alot and doesent hook up well. Go YAMAHA.

Just saw this got kicked back up as well so I will post what I know concerning your question.

First of all Missile Engineering is still in business. The owners name is John Kite and I actually spoke with him a couple of weeks ago concerning parts for a 250r kit. Very nice gentleman to deal with and he still produces kits for the 85-86 250r and 350x. He does not sell kits for the 81-84 250r, the 200x, or the TRI-Z because of frame/suspension issues. The 85-86 250r and 350x kits however are going for $995.00 plus shipping. This includes all parts such as swingarm, jackshaft, hub, fender, etc........ Everything you need to install the kit but a new drive chain. For the 350x owners you even have a choice of colors for the rear fender, red or white.

The link to a previously posted thread is listed below. It has all of his contact information listed for those interested in parts or a complete kit. He does not widely advertise the business anymore due to other priorities but is more than willing to help with parts, problems, questions, or complete kits.

Here are some photos of the original kits I found from back in the day:

Sorry about the invalid link. I edited my original post to correct it so the above link now works.

It is an old thread but his contact info is on the first page in a reply by Aussieduner. Hope this helps all of you interested in the kits or parts.

I personally don't understand why someone would want to do this..I mean why not get a cr250 then? I know I couldn't ride a missle kit, I have enough hard times with most dirtbikes lol

I guess it’s just personal preference in my own opinion. I mainly like them for nostalgia purposes but that’s just me.

I just saw a completely custom kx 500 on craigslist that had a dirtbike front rim and the scat track hauler in the back. It is not on there any more so no pic but it was so sick I wanted it. This bike made the missile kit look dated. They wanted 5000 and said it was a prototype for production of both KX500's and CR500's.

I did a bunch of research before I built my Fatcat 450R and from what I can see, the missle kits and others that use a 3wheeler to start with suffer from improper head tube angle and trail. This is what made them handle poorly. Fat tire two wheelers got a bad rap due to this and the fact that the factory built ones didn't have enough power to get out of their own way!

I love my 450R based FatCat it handles like a dream!

hey guys i found one of these local, super clean for 2 grand. think its worth it? it would mostly be a trail bike. im more of a 3 & 4 wheeler guy.

Mr braket- did u build trailprotrailpro BW useing the dirt bike frame, or modify a BW/trike frame?

i figured if it handled poorly i'll V-notch the frame behind the head tube and rake it out afew more degrees. backin the 80's my dad converted a xr600 into a trike with sum kit, and he said it was a beast to turn b/c of to much rake, so he notched the frame n pulled the front end in abit , and it made a world of a difference. so think it mite work. well thanks for any help u can offer.

Is it a missile conversion? If so then yes it is well worth 2g's. If so then it should be the 85-86 atc250r based with missile swinger jackshaft rear fender and shock linkage.

please for the love of god stop this maddness we are supost to be making more three wheelers not less i admit there kida cool
but make them out of dirtbikes they still make thouse and they will handle better since they where made to ride on two wheels
just remember there are only so many trikes and every time someone bolts this kit up theres 1 less 250r or 350x out there
