I think it was Dirtwheels. It went into detail about all the things that they removed and lightened and they ended up getting it under 250lbs if I remember right. Could someone scan and post that?

Sounds like a all aluminum CR cylinder with powervalve assembly removed will be as close as you could get to that mugen cylinder. A nikisil bore with that YZ piston, plus the CR ignition system? Yamahond aman what do you tihnk of those CR cylinders setup for the atc bottom end? Yay or nay?

Oh yeah billy, and you better pony up for a Titanium bolt kit for your entire bike. I hear ti bolts in the engine alone can save 3lbs.

I think a complete aluminum frame/swingarm would be the be all and end all to lightening a trike.

Rofl I was thinking about a Ti swingarm bolt till I seen the price for a piece of hex stock on mcmaster car 24 inches long was about $300  I think I'll stick with aluminum

So for around 2700 bucks you save 30 pounds? And that was back in the day..I wonder how much those parts go for now? If you can even find them..

Hey Billy

I just went through this exercise with my R for ice racing. My new and improved R looked good for the pictures, but a lot of thought went into it.

I will roll out the race version with ugly plastics etc before race season.

I went to the TRX aluminum swinger.
No skid plates for racing.
New Durablue Billet hubs.
Everyting that wasn't needed was removed, block off plate etc.
No air box
I cut off all un-needed brackets from the frame
The fork boots will be gone for racing
Aluminum bars
I changed from .190 rims to .165
The front rim went from a stock 350x rim to a 10" .165 with a smaller lighter tire
I didn't lighten anything in the motor, except I do use a PVL (motoplat) ignition and a lightened counterbalancer.
EBC brakes

That's all I can think of right now. Some stuff is beefier such as the chain and 330 motor which will add weight. I should have drilled holes in the subframe area to take weight out. This bike only flattracks so it wouldn't matter, but that will have to wait until the next rebuild in 10 years or so.

I like the hub idea!

Yeah I think I'm going to make an aluminum subframe for mine like I did the 500R. I've even got a pipe bender now (Just need to purchase some additional dies) so I can make it shaped however I need it).

I also drilled holes in my clutch and brake levers  Mostly just for looks, the holes do fit your finger tips good though. I'm gonna have Ronnie turn me an aluminum swingarm bolt sometime soon and I might buy some hex to have him do some other larger bolts too.

He's coming at the camera, leaning in a similar fashion to Billy's avatar.

Man, 250 pounds, thats what my CRF wieghs gassed up, that's crazy light for something with 3 wheels.

I called ct racing for some of those parts. They said they made them in small amounts in 86, never again, and very few people asked about them. I originally posted that atricle to be put up, along with denton vs white, some pro caliper racer, and some others too. I have the scans of them somewhere. I might put them back up on my picture page.
