When was it and what did you think?
Hmmm, it was early '97 when I first got 'online'. I didnt know much about anything(still dont for that matter :welcome: ) so I typed in 'Chat' in the search bar. I think the homepage was Excite because I dont remember anything else being the first webpage I saw. It had news tidbits, weather, horoscopes, ect...
Anyway, I find the chat program called 'Excites Virtual Places'. I logged in as a guest. I get in there and think its the coolest thing. People just yucking it up! After a few days of repeatedly going back there, I notice everyone is always talking about Cartman, Kenny, Kyle, Stan and everybody else. I honestly thought it was just some peoples names that were in the chat room. Soooo, a few months go by with me not knowing who the heck these people are. I FINALLY catch the 'cartoon'. Dude, theyre talking about these guys! South Park! Yeah, Im slow. :P
So, after that I registered with a screen name and that was my new home online. Then, late 2001 came and a company called 'Halsoft' bought out Excite or something like that. Anyway, Halsoft changed Virtual Places into the most lame, stupid, boring place Ive been. Most everybody(all the regulars) left after that and never came back. I called it quits shortly after Halsoft took over.
So...thats my first 'interneting' experiece.
Share yours? No, not the first time you had cybersex! :banned:

I didn't get on until '01. I'd been telling my kids I'd never have a computer because I had no use for it and I wasn't going to get one just because everbody else was. Then I got on the internet at the library and realized just how much information was out there. This site and .org were two of the sites I visited that first time. Now the internet is such a big part of my everyday life, I can't believe it's only been five years.

I have been on net since 93. Back then there were 2 services. Compuserve and Prodigy. We also used to hit all the BBS's around town here.

It was around 99 or 2000 when we got our computer hooked up with internet. My sister and I would spend alot of time in chat rooms, and browsing the interweb..My sister still talks to the first few people she met online, and now one of them is her boyfriend too.. I think thats pretty cool.. And since then I know that I cant live without the internet. So many helpful things and forums like here,Independant racing, and club cav are a few.. I dont know what I would have done without these web sites..

Man I can't even remember exactly when we got the internet, I think it was around 97 or 98. I had a local friend at the time that had internet access for a while and he told me about some sites like www.country.com which at the time was the website for the channel "TNN" which was like a sister company/channel of CMT the music channel. Anyways they had some pretty neat stuff on there, message boards, java chat rooms about hunting, trucks, info about the latest songs and music, etc. It wasn't to long after that I found out about a site called www.gamesages.com back when I was big into console gaming and I hung out on their UBB message board a ton, I think I was like 11 or 12 at the time. I found ebay right around this same time through that forum and I registered an account all the way back then  Then I found www.atving.com /ATV Connection in probably mid '99 and hung out on their chatroom a lot and thats where I "met" ThreeWheelio and found out about his site. I had an 82 Big Red 200E at the time, been here ever since.

Think it was around 02 for me. We had dial up at the time and my wife would always sign me in as I knew nothing about internet, computers, dial up.....zilch, not one thing.
She went away one day and I was real anxious to go on and not knowing what I was doing I somehow got it to try and log me on, it made all kinds of strange noises and I thought I broke the computer, I quick shut it down and went out of the room and waited till she came home to sign me in.

It was the late 80's for me. When were bored, we used to use the dial up modem to crank call people. My Stepfather was a technogeek at the time. We had Compuserve. It was pretty dumb, but we thought it was funny at the time.
I got back into it in the early 90's while in college. It was still UNIX based, no graphics, etc. I thought it sucked. I took HTML classes at the time.....should have stuck with it.....then in the late 90's I got online again to find out that HTML caught on and the net was way more fun.....shortly after, I met Tim Warburton while looking for a short track tank kit....and have been with 3WW ever since.

I dont remember what year I got on but it must have been around 96-97 cuz alot of people didnt have windows 95 yet, most were still using 3.1? I believe..I remember that we bought a top-of-the-line comp and it had a 33.6 modem, we were burning up the phone lines at 2-3 kbs! I downloaded Adobe photoshop one day(and night) from a Warez site (remember when they were all over the net?), it took me 27 hours straight!
My first time on the net was to d/l "7th Sphere" so I could join MIRC and chat. Anyone remember IRC? Back then you could flood and nuke people. We used to be so into it, there was even a meet and greet in kansas for everyone in "wasteland" (our channel).
I wonder if anyone still goes into IRC?
I do remember that our hard drive was big at the time..1.2 gig! I filled it so fast that I went out and bought an IOmega Zip Drive. And I had my comp upgraded before it shipped, to 32Megs of ram! Back then, there were very few videos. Mostly I remember lots of porn sites and Warez..and it seemed as though EVERYONE had a "homepage". Hacking and phreaking was big back then, so was typing L1K3 Th1s, god I still hate that. Dave

Wow, you were lucky. Other then my Vic20, 64 and apple IIe, my first comp was a 386dx33 with a 40 meg drive and 4meg ram! My first cycle game was Stunt Cycle... remember that one? That's where you jump over barrels...LOL
As for MIRC, that's where all the warez have went to recently.

Ummm...I STILL have Altavista as my startup page when I open up Firefox. Its what I used to find this site along with the other site...and up until firefox, I still used Netscape, and my desktop had ICQ up until last year! myself along with my Mother and brother used ICQ until earlier this year.
On another note..what irc servers are best to find warez, Dalnet, IRCnet?

You'd be surprised how many people's PCs use IRC...or at least connect back to them to carry out their zombie orders...
I think it must have been in 1995-ish. My bro bought an HP Pentium 133 with a 1.2GB drive and 16MB RAM. He upped the memory to a whopping 96MB and upped the proc to a 200 a year or so later. Total cost over $3,000
Got my own pc in 97 and spent many a night til morning playing Age of Empires & Motocross Madness on the "Zone". That Voodoo3 was pumping out the polygons!!!
Now I don't think I have one single game loaded on my PC(s).

I can remember looking at some of the old bbs boards in the late 80's though it didnt hold my interest much.
In the early 90's I remember playing Doom over services like DWANGO and just went from there.

Yeah, I remember when my uncle got Windows 95. He had a Nascar game on there I used to play the hell out of. Also, Chuck Yeagers flight. I think his ISP was ATT but the browser was Netscape. Having to sit through the various chirping and buzzing sound before getting online...I have those sounds memorized!

I think we got our first one in 98 or 99 it was windows 98 and a compaq pc. Im using the speakers from it right now as i cant find the plug for our new ones. We still have dial up. We got this pc in 2006 which is on xp. On our first pc we had netscape navigator then eventually it disappeared (i think dad deleted it) and internet explorer took over. I remember dad always being on altavista or whatever it was called.
