All welds have there place... but if you do aluminum you need TIG. FYI all welds should be strong stronger then the metal that you fused together welds should NEVER brake if done correctly! But arc is ok for I beams.... LOL

Yep arc will do well when ever it's needed, but the TIG is soooo much nicer. TIG welds look purdy too.

What model Miller TIG did you buy? Miller is good stuff.

I have a miller tig welder......but I dont know how to use it. I also have a lincoln welder with a spool gun, and am not to bad with welding aluminum with it. I seem to always shock myself with the tig welder, what is up with that.

You know I keep hearing of people shocking themselves using a TIG. I weld without gloves most of the time and I've NEVER got zapped yet? :wondering

You didn't wait on me the other day I went to get some .38 special +P ammo, did you?

M: I would like some .38 special +P please.
S: I am sorry but we only have Winchesters right now.
M: Yes, I would like a box of +P.
S: No, I don't see any. I don't think we carry the Plus pee brand. What color box do they come in?
M: <sigh> Ok, then may I have some of those Winchester +P's you have there in the white box?
S: Sure, I have the Winchester. But as I mentioned, we don't seem to carry the Plus pee brand.
(Luckily he didn't disappear to the head only to bring back a dripping box of ammo.)

Oh, I seem to have gone on a tangent here. What I was going to say in the beginning was

First of all you need a camera that has a filter to do that. Second, the guy is an idiot! at the end of the video he says "thats how you stick weld" well its not stick welding!!! fool its TIC! and anyone can weld 1/2 plate in a but joint that is flat and prewelded!!

We got a old miller stick welder, and we got a new miller 310 mig. Both are good welders. I've been practicing oxyfuel welding at school, and I'm getting pretty good. Took me forever to get the hang of it, but I'll be moving on to TIG sometime soon. Oxyfuel makes some nice beads too, if done right!

Actually, I think he says 'thats how you stitch weld'. I meant it as an example of the work the machine is capable of which I would like to see because I am wanting to replace the worn out, broken plastics on my trike :TrikesOwn with aluminum. I have a cambell/hausefeld ac stick welder but I am undecided whether to buy a miller stick welder with DC or a Lincoln Electric mig rig with gas I saw at Hoe Depot to be able to make pretty welds on aluminum and not burn through. I have tried gas before but I suck at it. :(

As for the camera with lens, couldn't you just put the camera behind a welding helmet with the big type of lens and just zoom it in like it looks in the video? Sound would be a little off maybe though.:wondering

I took welding for pseo in highschool at st. paul college. There was this one jerk in our class who nobody liked. I stuck a rod in the end of the tig handle and asked him to come over to my booth and look underneath the table. While he was down there stuck the rod down by the waist of his pants while he was bent over and stepped on the pedal.. man we all had a good laugh, but he was waiting for me when we were getting on the bus to go home. haha.

Who can do it with o/a? I just got back with some tig rod I scored and was looking at a miller 175 I think. Anyways I figger I can try it tomorrow after I find some aluminum s-crap out back. I'm sure I saw a track for a door or something laying around the other day.

i use to hardly ever wear gloves while tig welding. but now that i weld more aluminum, my hands and arms get a nice sunburn! so from now on i wear long sleeves and gloves. never got shocked though, its always in the back of my mind!

I went in and started practicing today, and we set the amps at 100, while welding on mild steel. That was easy, I just need a lot more practice. Then we went to 1/8 aluminum. We had the amps set at about 86. We were using pure tungsten 3/32. It was a lap joint. I started, waited a second until it got shiny, then went to add filler. I couldnt seem to push the filler as I could on the steal. Any tips or tricks to get my puddle flowing? I ran about a 2 inch bead that was melted through like a mofo, and looked terrible.

mnnmaz
01-26-2007, 08:20 PM
Well, first turn down your amps, then turn down your argon flow, and practice practice practice.... If you cant get it.... sendt it my way :D :naughty: :naughty:

Remember TIG is not like stick, you dont push the puddle you just add just me nice and steady.... but if you need anything welded or fabed let me know : bounce
