Again, Im throwing out the feelers. Im considering reduced laps for this possible class at riders' discretion. Are there old guys out there who would like to give it a try, but are intimidated by the young riders in novice classes? Mayeb three laps is a but much, and youd like to give it a shot, but one or two laps is more than enough! (Dont let the track fool you. 3 laps will wear down a conditioned rider.)

On the spirit of why this class is considered, it would not be open to Expert Class riders, and possibly not even Advanced Class riders, depending on circumstances.

Is 40+ a good age cutoff? Higher?

Again, the poll is for potential riders only. Post your comments, age below. You can post in the poll on behalf of an elder if he doesnt use the computer, provided he has agreed to it, and you are doing it at his direction.

This poll allows more than one selection, so if you vote to race, also vote on laps.

Age 48 at this year tri-fest.
Tim,
I see your point about 40+, not letting expert or advanced ride in this. Could it
be changed to 45+ and be open to all? 5 years makes a difference!
Tri-fest 3rd weekend? If so, I'll be able to stay the weekend. Last year my son and I could only stay in the middle of the week due to his track and field competition that Saturday.

Dang....9 months shy...guess I gotta wait till next year to race MX. LOL!!!

Actually, sounds like a good idea....the more people that can participate, the better the event will be.

Pop a GERITOL and go, go, GO!

If you are serious, we could squeeze you in. You ride like a much older guy anyways. Go ahead and vote in the poll if you want.

Man, I guess I made this poll too complicated for old people! You can make more than one selection. SELECT ALL THAT APPLY! Theres even one option on there for Speedbump!

They are trying to get the brochure ready for release so I need to make a determination quickly.

I did not vote on the first two lines because of the "punks" wording. Anyone who rides three wheels is allright with me, no matter what age. I refrain from name calling. I would like a senior class, and to run in the general class, run same laps,
and throw in a beginners class for under 40.

Hey, its all in fun. Ive got great respect for all these "kids" out there. Ill actually be proud and consider a personal accomplishment when one of them beats me, which is why Im staying in the Expert class.

We have both 2 stroke and 4 stroke novice classes already. I know you would prefer to run a 45 and over class, and I of all people know what a difference a few years makes, but as it looks now, if we did that, you would be in a class by yourself which is why I was even putting out the feelers for people under 40 but close. We need enough people to run another class. I havent decided anything foir sure yet, but it will all depend on the number of riders, and their ages.

Im trying to deciphre my own poll, but as I understand it, we have 3 riders who are actually over 40 - Papa Kintore, Yamahondaman, Old179, who would prefer to rider in a Senior class based on age instead of an open aged trike size defined class. We've also got Speedbump on the edge at 39+.

Two would prefer a reduced # of laps.

If I run a 2 lap (instead of 3) Senior Trike class for Novice level riders who are concerned about getting run over by the younger riders or surviving 3 laps, are you 4 riders willing to commit to come to Trikefest and run it?

The other guys over 40 prefer to compete in the general classes.

Old 179
02-10-2007, 06:23 AM
Is the Senior class considered a novice class? If so, I'll go back to the other class. I was hoping to run with others my age who had rode them new back in the day.
Still one vote for 45+. I would not feel as bad ride with novice bunch then.

I just got confirmation from Jeff the Dude for the race. He said he would race my trike. THis will give the class an extra over 40 rider for however your setting it up.

I just got my dress home from the cleaners!!! Just waiting for the panties...

I can commit to a 2 lap run with some oldsters. Just for the sake of fielding another class...no doubling any jumps this year.

I appreciate your willingness to do what you can to make this a a go, but its not quite what I was shooting for. This idea was based on this thread http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=62187

I was looking at getting older guys involved who would not normally participate because of the realistic fear of being injured by more aggressive younger riders who can laugh off a spill that would put us of work for a couple of months. Im also taking into consideration that they may have watched and know full well they cannot run the same number of laps as the rest of us. I was looking for those who felt they needed to be segregated into a different class for safety reasons and physical limitations. As shown in the poll, we have several riders over 40, myself included, who are comfortable mixing it up in the general classes. We dont need an additional class for the sake of adding a class, and I was looking at bringing in new people who are not going to run in a general class.

Some questions to consider for running this class:

Are you an inexperienced MX racer who genuinely fears getting run over or bumped off the track even in one of the novice classes?

Is your physical condition or age such that even a minor spill could cause serious injury? Do you feel safer knowing everybody else in your class has the same concerns, and would exercise the same caution?

Three laps totally drained many of the young racers. Are you not riding MX because you know you would have to pull off the track after a lap or two? (If you are capable of running multiple classes, this is probably not you.)

This is what I am looking for. Most of our racers fit quite well into one of the existing classes. Im 45 years old but I dont think Papa Kintore was looking for a match up against ME. As our Expert riders get older, and younger guys (someday) begin to dominate, we might then have a need for a Veteran class of some sort, but for '07 Im just looking at getting some older guys involved who dont fit into the current structure. Nobody will be humiliated, and I will always have the utmost respect for those choose to go out and experience something while they are still able to, and while the opportunity lasts.

Thanks for all who participated in this thread. While I do not have a Senior class listed in guidelines, its still up for discussion, and still under consideration.

Gotcha Tim.

I'll hang on the sidelines this year and enjoy the show!!

I will admit that it's a ball even if you aren't leading. I ran in 05 with a bunch of 350Xs and was at the back of the pack. Still had a blast.

So if any of you guys are willing and able, give it a shot. Not too many times you'll get to line up in a MX race with 6 other trikes.

I'll not be MXing this year.

Is your physical condition or age such that even a minor spill could cause serious injury?

Short answer
Yes.

Longer answer.
This was proven last year during a practice. Apparently, I'm a wuss. It was a minor wreck but my leg still hurts daily and the ribs hurt on occasion. Pain from a wreck that happened 8 months ago sure makes me forget about the fun I had on the track. I'm an enthusiast not a die hard racer/rider. I'll have as much fun from the sidelines watching the action as I would racing.

Looks like we dont really have enough for a full class or a full gate by any means, but I think Ill run it as a non-trophy exhibition class. We will run one lap first moto, and you guys can decide whether you want one or two laps in the 2nd moto. On this basis, Ill let 350xhilaration enter as well, trying to get everybody involved. Remember, this is for older guys who feel they have no business even in a novice class which is where people should sign up if they are able.

I hope youll give it a try. You wont regret it. Honestly, I think our novice classes will be a little thin this year anyways, as our pool of novice riders have geeting getting more experienced and been moving up. Just take it easy and dont ride beyond your ability. The worst that can happen is you get last place, which still trumps "armchair racer" any day! What trike will you be racing?

350x for sure...

I may even give the 2 stroke class a go too? Either R or Z depending on which I can borrow from Ovhonda.

I am bringing my son this year. He is 15 and will be on a 200x and I am sure he will want to race. What class would he be in? He has not raced before?

If you havent raced before, you may want to stick with one call unless you feel you are in super physical condition, but then you can always drop out of one if after the first moto, you decide two classes may be a bit much. Just let a scorer know so she can scratch you off.

We have a mid size suspended class for your son. He will be running against TimJr,(12) and most likely Brandon Hall and probably other kids, and maybe a few adults in that class too.

See this thread for more details and a downloadable guide. http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=64131

That's great Tim thanks! I'm may just stick to the open novice class (350x) I am not in that bad of shape nor am I over weight. There is really no excuse for me not to be in better shape. My fiancée said that turning wrenches in the garage does not count as exercise? I think it does ;)

Zack (son) wants to run the 200x in mid suspended and the 110 in unsuspended.
He is excited to say the least.
