I'm polishing my Z motor and afterwards, I would like to have it anodized.

I was thinking a blue color, is this a good idea? Would it hold up to heat?

How would I "tape" off the ports and other parts dont want dipped.

Is this even worth it? haha Maybe I should just put that high temp clear on there. But I think it would be pretty cool to have a blue anodized motor.

This is if I can find an anodizer that speaks english!! Every place I phone I cant even communicate with them.

I think it would be very cool looking. Scratches would be very noticable though. You would most likely need to disassemble the engine.

Well anodized I am not 100% sure on because you would have to have the motor dipped I would think, but don't know, but here is a 350X I did last summer where I was going for the same type of effect or somewhat similar. I sold a Big Red to this guy and He said he was going to use it to trailer parts at his powdercoat business.I was talking to him about what I could do with my motor ,well after chatting for an hour he said I could get the motor blasted and he could do the rest! I went to him a month later with the motor fully assembled and he called me up a week later and said it was done. He briefly told me that the motor went threw a 6 step process using acid, which did not effect the rubber at all , he laid a gold color on the motor, which I could not see,and told me it will turn with heat! You can see in the pic's during assembly that it looks just polished, well after the machine was rolling ,sure as sh$% ,it turned gold, kinda like a FMF gold series pipe! What did he do you ask? I have no clue ,he just used acid as far as I knew! I also know he restores Triumph bikes and they had similar motor colors! Just find a english speaking powder coater and ask ,I guess! It's not anodized but I see that you wanna make your motor sweet and maybe this could help ya out!!!

Tecat-z and I took some part to a anodizer in Indy last year. For the T3s we had motor mounts, top triple tree, fork caps and tri-z rims and they turned out great. We also took fork legs , KX cylinder ,T3 engine cases and the clamps for the top triple tree and they turned out like crap. The aluminum has to be top grade like the items that turned out so well. The other items were (cases) junk metal. That is how the anodizer explained it . Its to bad because the motor would have been sweet ! I'll post a pic of the triple tree and motor mounts. Never took a pic of the stuff that did not turn out.

Well, my motor is completly dissasembled right now. All bearings are pulled.

Now I remmeber talking to one guy who said if you anodize cast aluminum like cases and cylinder, they will turn out very dark.

Id like to see pics of that KX cylinder and cases though.

Ill make some phone calls, try to find someone who speaks fluent english.

thanks for the help. Ill let you know what I end up doing

Not just any four stroke, a 350x to boot! Looks freaking sweet! Boy I wish we kept the one we had a few years back.

The T3 is nice too, something about that front tire looks funky though in the last pick....

The anodizer I phoned today said its not a good idea for cast alum..he said its very dark, and would have to be polished up, but still would look pretty bad.

I wonder if you can get tinted clear?

These are tecat-zs clutch and water pump covers to a t3. The cluth cover outside was gently cleaned after anodizing to try and remove the dirty apperance , and then cleared as you can see it still looks awful . The water pump cover and inside of clutch cover have not been altered. You cannot remove the streaks or dirty spots . The cylinder was done at the same time and it still turned out as bad. Don't waste your time with this poor grade metal. Blast and paint.

That does look like crap.. you can strip it off with Lye, I've read. Thats what I would do if I were you..then just polish or paint them.

Thanks for the pics though!:beer
