View Full Version : New tri-z 310 kits
TRITecate350
01-20-2007, 10:03 PM
I am building 310 kits for the Tri-z and will be opening up a preorder for the kit. The kit will include a sleeve/piston/gaskets for $300. I am going to give a discount($50) for those who preordered or buys a billet head. I am going to offer the kits installed for $500 with some machining done for even more performance. On the billet heads I gave a discount for preorder, I am not going to do that this time, a deposit will just insure you get one.
Here is some pics of the kit....
First we have the 310 sleeve, I made a few changes to the sleeve and performance should be greatly improved.
http://www.tecateconnection.com/triz310sleeve.JPG
Here we have a cylinder that I cut the reedcage, exhaust, transfer ports off. With everything removed I am able to measure, and design a sleeve with the best port layout and will match the triz cylinder without much port matching.
http://www.tecateconnection.com/rob3.JPG
Here we have a comparison of the stock 250 cylinder and the "hacked" cylinder w/sleeve. Just to give you an idea of how much bigger than stock it is.
http://www.tecateconnection.com/rob2.JPG
Here is a finished 310 cylinder that is ready for porting....

http://www.tecateconnection.com/310z.JPG
I am still deciding what other modifications I will be doing for the 310 cylinders. I am building a jig that holds the cylinder in a mill to cut the intake side ports, also I am going to use that jig to machine the boost port in the rear of the cylinder. Also this is a direct bolt on...no case mods needed. There will be 4 bores to the kit, and pistons are from wiseco and will be available for the next 20 years at least.
The preorder will be opened up as soon as I have taken care of the billet heads.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Is it just my eyes or are the new transfer ports staggered height? Nice :)

What all would you need to do the install/machining? Also for the entire topend treatment what would I be looking at for the coolhead and 310 kit?

Your right Billy, the transfer closest to the exhaust is a little higher than the other transfers. This sleeve was based on the stock port layout, and that is why it was made like that. The new designed ports in the new sleeves, are all the same height with the exception of the boost port which is higher than all other ports. I redesigned the boost port and more than doubled its size.
As far as a price for everything...probably $600. Billet head, big bore kit. and all machine work/port matching/boring. I have not figured out what the exact cost will be as of right now.

Thats cheap for a 310, you guys with a z should jump on that. Compare it to a 250r 310 and you would have that much into it easy. Just a resleeve, bore and port match would run at least $500.
Is that like the 250r, where it starts out around 295 and works up to a 310 on its last bore?

They were staggered stock? Hmm, didn't know that! Guess I'll have to look at a Z cyl a little bit closer next time. Anyways your doing some pretty bad ass work here Sprock, I'm sure these will sell well.

Hehe...I am getting confussed. I am having a hard time with measuring the cylinder, but the only port that is stagered is the right transfer next to the exhaust. Why Yamaha did this is beyond me, infact I think it would be stupid to design a cylinder like this. When a transfer or set of transfers open first, the highest presure of air/fuel will enter into the cylinder. The massive amount of exhaust flowing out the exhaust port at that time, will overpower some of the air/fuel and send it right out of the exhaust since both ports are so close to one another. I think that Yamaha did this to restrict power from the triz.
I have an aftermarket sleeved topend, and all the ports are the same height. My 310 kit will have all the transfers the same height except the boost port on the rear of the cylinder. I open the rear boost port first and point it at the center top of the bore, so the highest presure from the crankcase is used to help push stagnant exhaust out of the cylinder. It is kinda confusing..........but it works
At the stock bore size the engine will be 308cc, and at the final bore size it will be 325cc.... So if you wanted to call it a 330 kit you could, based on the other engine builders. Do you want me to call it a 330 kit? :naughty:

Yamaha was weird with these cylinders, Theres only one boyesen port in the intake too where they could have just as easily made 2.
Just out of curiousity since I've not looked at the transfer design on the Zs a whole lot and you have one already cut up :) Are they angled up, or are they horizontal? There might be some more power gain by flattening them out instead of pointing them towards the top...

question- how long till we can buy one? preorder?
Thanks!

The ports are for the most part flat in the triz...and the big bore kit will have "big" boyesen ports.
I will probably opening up the preorders by Feb 1st. I am working on the jigs and setting up everything. I am in the middle of finishing the porting on the "proto-type" big bore kit for the testing. Should be interesting.

i am just curious,,,, would yuou benifit from a split exahust port,,,, maybe it would give longer ring life? just wondering,,,,,,,,,,,
TRITecate350
02-27-2007, 11:39 PM
It probably wouldnt be much of a benefit on the life of the rings since the Tri-z exhaust isnt that wide. Also if I were to install a bridge in the middle like the honda, it would cut down on exhaust flow and I couldnt widen the port to get the flow back since the port is soo thin from the factory.

I got 7 preorders soo far.....
TRITecate350
03-02-2007, 11:04 AM
I only have a limited number of heads left and will probably have to shut down the preorders of "complete 330 kits" after the next 5 preorders. I will still have the "no head 330 kit" and bare bones kit available. I just wanted to let everyone know incase you were planning on waiting till last minute. When I run out of billet heads you will need to send your stock head to Yamahondaman or a local machine shop to remachine for the larger bore. Also, if you are using a stock head you might have a hard time getting a custom head gasket for it as well.

what type of gas will we need to run with this setup? will pump gas do, or will we have to run race gas???? also will any of the yamaha wrench reports be of any use with this setup or is unnessesary with the 310 sleeves port work?

Parts of the wrench report are already built into this kit. You can run pump or race fuel depending on the dome you install with the kit.

Pre-orders for the 330 kits are now closed.
Thanks for another sucessful pre-order program. I know this requires a lot of trust on the part of you guys, and appreciate your confidence. I believe this kit will be a huge increase in hp and torque and look forward to meeting a lot of you at trikefest this year.
I will be ordering the sleeves this week and should be receiving them in 6 weeks. As soon as the sleeves are in, I will be assembly line installing them and will have them done in May.
I will have pics along the way.

Pictured is an aluminum sleeve, I will be building 5 nikisiled versions of the big bore kit too. I will have more info on these soon. Pm me if you want one in Nikisil.

well some of you guys already know that i purchased a bigbore kit from sprock and have seen it run but i wanted to post some comments about it to the others that are interested in them but havent bought one yet .
i had a very good running 250 cyl on it before and i really thought it would be hard to beat the performance of it but i was WRONG !!!!!!!
this bike wasent given a very nice break in process at all ....lol 2 heat cycles and to draggin i went ... the carb setup is way off but it still runs very hard ..
moshman,s bike also ran very well but he was having a slight electrical problem just before the drags but his bike runs very well also ..
in my oppinion there is alot more performance left to get out of my bike ..carb is way off and it has a very very conservative port job right now ( ported it in the trailer at tf ) ..i am going to have the porting finished , get it tuned then take it to the dyno and see what the lil girl will do then i will post results ..
in my oppinion to all you guys who are thinking of buying one of these cyl setups i wouldnt wate to long thay might be all gone .. i personally am going to buy another complete setup so when i hammer mine i can just swap it out and go again .. and i dont think you are going to get this much bang for your buck out of any other try-z cyl getting ported right now ......this kit is dirt cheap for what it performes like ... i could go on and on about it but i think i about covered it well enough ...........................just ask some of the guys that were at the trikefest drags how well it runs .....hope every tri-z guy that can will get one ......the honda guys dont like getting beat by a slow tri-z ..lol ...........................my.02 cents

Sorry for the wait guys, I am slowly but surely getting things done. These kits were much more labor intensive than I thought. Since I have been back from Trikefest, my father who is also my boss, has decided I have had loads of time off, and has been working me like crazy. And what spare time I do have seems to be split between big bore kits, family and just keeping things running smoothly with Sprock Racing. Thanks for everyones patience.....

Most customers report:
Less vibration
Runs cooler
need larger front sprocket

I don't want the head or extra port work. I actually just need a piston for the 250 but this isn't that much more by the time I have it bored etc. Do you need my stock jug or does that price include a core? I'll give you my stock jug if it gets the price down to justify. Let me know. Thanks.
I cant quote you prices,But if you want the 310 kit,you almost, HAVE to have the coolhead, unless you want to spend money having a stock head machined to fit the larger piston.

Gotchya, thanks. I was not aware of that. Like I said I did not read this whole thing. So it looks like $500 then.
Still, a stellar deal.Comes with all gaskets and parts needed, plus the coolhead has re-useable seals,so no more 30 dollar headgaskets, and you also get a heavy duty base gasket too.Much stronger than stock. And if you ever go back to a 250,you can still use the coolhead, just switch domes.

I will mention it to him, he will be out of the fields here REAL soon, so he will be back on the site more often.
You shouldnt have a problem getting a bigbore kit.

We are about to hit it hard. We have everything to assemble the motor for testing, we really want to take it with us to Glamis.
I will be giving updates, if it runs, it will be within the next couple of weeks :)

Got sleeves on order, will be rolling more kits out in the upcoming months.
I need cylinders! I would like them to have good threads, and no major damage. If you don't know whether yours qualifys or not, throw me a picture or two.
