Well here are the latest pic's. I have had it running, but have not rode it yet. I need a radiator & to weld everything solid, tighten all bolts. I pretty muck have it all tacked todether. I have a like new axle & carrier to put In It yet also. I'll be adding alot of frame reinforcement gussot all over the place lol. I'm sending the seat to the Mosh's soon for a new super cool new cover & foam. I also plan on a white plastic tank as soon as I can.

you do some awesome work jason. I didnt follow the whole build but howd you get it in there and still put the gas tank on and make it all look right? Did you drop the engine cradle? doesnt look like it. Im jealous

thats nice, I am thinking of putting a yz450f motor into the 86 200x frame I'm gonna have made, 85/86 250r front end rear suspension also, 86-89 250r rear end stuff too, and 450r pegs, and brake pedal stuff. My thing to think about is, how, where I am gonna put the radiators? Maybe a short track 250r tank and 250r plastics will go on it??

Jason Hall
02-09-2007, 08:50 PM
Thanks guys. I still have alot of work ahead of me.

Deathman53, I will be running a 84-85 tecate radiator mounted on the tripples, thanks to some other member's quick thinking (Derrick, Garageboy).

If I had the radiator I could ride this damn thing lol.

Dizasterzrfun69 quote, I didnt follow the whole build but howd you get it in there and still put the gas tank on and make it all look right? Did you drop the engine cradle?

I did'nt drop the engine cradle at all. I just cut the lower motor mounts off & It fell right In there. I had to cut the upper shock mount completly off & rebuild It though. The gas tank fits just as It origionally did, on the stock mounts.

thats awesome. I remember you saying you cut the bottom motor mounts but i didnt realize it dropped in that easily and cleared the backbone. You gotta be anxious to take it out. I wonder how it will run against other bikes, 250rs, trx450r QUADS This is going to tf07 isnt it?

Dizasterzrfun69, It Is a 05, But I bought some 06 parts today that will make quite a change for the better. I bought the crank & rod, piston, jug, cam, valves, from a 06 engine. If I get the time I just might slap It on there. The 06 engine is supposed to really run alot better. I know the bore & stroke Is different. Any way you look at It, there will be a huge problem keeping the front end on the ground lol. I hope to have a longer swinger here shortly also. If you could actually use the motor I'm sure It would out run a 450r quad. Big weight advantage.

Nice Job jason, dosent even look like a conversion and that is a real sign of a professional job.

The Radiator in the Tecate postion will look great too, It can be hidden quite well and won't mess with the classic lines of the 350X. An added advantage is that it may even weigh up the front a little bit, help out with all that wheelie action that you are surely going to experience.

I'm looking forward to someone doing an 84/85 Tecate fitted with a KX450F or even a KX250F donk now. I'd love to do it but unfortunatly these Tecates are as rare as rocking horse poo in Australia. I've only ever seen one 85 in Australia and that was back in 1985.

Rocking horse poo, that Is too funny. Hey mate thanks for the compliment's lol. I will need one of Aussie's rad covers real soon, I hope he's figured out how much they are.

I was really expecting to have the radiator by now, I'm so bummed. All the weight I can get In the front the better. My buddy Is makin me some tripples for my CR125 Inverted forks. That will make It complete, well almost anyway.

Jason, is the rear-end higher than normal because of the longer swinger? Are we going to have to get some sort of lowering links? It will be even taller with the 06 swinger.

Looks SWEET!!!!

Gunnar
02-10-2007, 11:12 AM
So when are you coming out with the conversion kit and instructions for the rest of us. It wont be no fun if you can WAMP on everyone out there.

Jason Hall
02-10-2007, 02:54 PM
yes It's 3leggeddogs old X. I have wanted to build a 4 stroke for a while now. I had Intentions on using the stock 350x engine, but my buddy made me a deal of a lifetime on the 450 engine so here It Is.

Derrick, I will be getting a lowering link for the rear. The 450r shock Is real stiff like I said. I will get a different shock than the stocker. That was the highest I could mount the shock & keep the geometry the same as the 450r. If I could have gone higher with the top shock mount It would have lowered the ride height, so a lowering link Is kinda a must for me.

If anyone wants to convert something just get the motor & frame, I will build It for Ya. I have posted alot of pic's as I built this.

JASON... Thats awsome!! I can't wait to see it run at TF07.
My only concern is that the ZINGER60 sitting beside it will take away some of its "wowfactor",LOL. I know I spent a lot of time looking at the mini-R at TF06. You do GOOD work!! Keep it up!!

Mik6, thanks. The zinger conversion Is gunna be just what the little guy needs. Good suspension & plenty of motor. Can't wait until I have them both done.

Nice work Jason, that's amazing how it fit's in so nicely.

I wonder what the weight difference is beteen trike and quad?

Is that the 450R motor or a CRF 450 motor ?

Jason Hall
02-25-2007, 10:12 PM
HUFFA, It's a 05 450r engine, but I just bought the Inerts from a 06 trx. The 06-07 trx Is alot like the crf motor, same bore & stroke. I bet the weight diff Is big though.

I had to narrow the front pivot on the outsides. It was'nt real hard to do & the coolest part was It does'nt take away the strength at all. I had to mill off the surface where the origional 450r seal's & cups were. I then just moved everything In farther & put a seal Inside the pivot tube on the outside of the needle bearing.

02-27-2007, 03:13 PM

Thanks to 90nut & the good T3 radiator he sent me, I was able to ride the 450 for a long period of time yesterday. This thing has perfect power for MX. It pulls down low awesome of course. It's not as wheelie happy as I figure It would be. Don't get me wrong, In the first 3 gears you can easily flip yourself. But down the raod screamin through the gears my .010 over 250r would smoke the 450. The 450 feels alot like a 2 stroke because It revs so fast. But the 250 pulls lots harder top end. I let It Idle for about 10 to 15 minutes & It does'nt get hot, so I think the T3 rad will work out fine.

Any more stuff need done to it before TF?

Is the mini Z done yet?

Oh by the way...signature update required...;)

350Xhilaration, I have alot of small stuff, frame gussots, paint, Mosh seat cover, Aussie race plate & to get my Inverts on the front before TF.

The little 60 Is running, I have lots to do to It though. It's coming along real good.

Jason, who is building your triple clamps? And how much do they run?

Derrick Adams
03-11-2007, 08:19 AM
I was wondering if those would be showing up on the bike this weekend. Can't wait to see it with fender and some bars on it. AND here the ride report!

Try out a set of shorter dirt bike bars on it when you get to that point. I found the 350X to be much more comfortable with shorter bars. The ATV bars are just too tall.

Looks like they clear everything real well. Height about right? SWEET!!!!!!

Jason Hall
03-11-2007, 08:33 AM
My buddy Is building the tripples. He did mine on a mill. I'm not sure on a price though. If anyone Is Interested, let me know. If he gets enough request's we can probly get him to make em on the CNC & get the price down a bit. My tripps are made for modified CR125 or CR250 forks.

Derrick, the height worked out nice. I'll get the bars & fender on today & post up another picture tonite. I need some bushings before I can ride It lol.

Jason Hall
04-03-2007, 09:00 PM

Sandpuppi101, I forgot this blue was at work sittin on the shelf. It was a spurt of the moment deal. I painted the hood of our 94 freightliner boom truck & this was left over. I love the color though. Can't wait to see your bikes at TF.

It's been a while since I've updated this thread, just got done swapping In a 02 CRF 450 engine. WOW, the older TRX engine Is mild compared to the CRF. This thing Is an ANIMAL now. Lots of things needed to be changed. All the motor mount's, slight air box boot mod. The CRF engine Is alot lighter & fits the frame with lots to spare. The crf engine Is one ass kicken engine. Here's a few pic's.

I had to really lean the CRF forward to keep the sprocket In the correct place. Big mods to the cylinder head also to make It work. It was all worth It, I love the power :w00t:

Derrick Adams
07-22-2007, 03:22 PM
Now you just need some 450R footpegs!

BigGreenMachine
07-22-2007, 05:51 PM
The TRX is way detuned compared to the stock CRF450. Bet the front end is super light under throttle.

Yes I would say your right. The front end Is very light now. I don't mind It though, the power Is smooth. It's radical If you just hammer It, gotta climb on the tank :beer

Derrick, I'm waiting till winter to re-work the footpeg's. I need to practice riding this thing so I'm ready to get my butt kicked by you guys on Labor day :Bounce

so the trx,and crf bolt up different?damn,i was wanting to swap a crf motor into my trx.so i guess we need to talk about them internals you got!!!!

give me a call,i lost your number

614-296-1454

i would like to have you build me a motor, port the head of course, and slap thos crf into my motor.holla at me bro

Kilborg
08-13-2007, 12:12 PM
The trx engine can easily make the same power the crf version can, but there are quite a few differences. Cam, head, piston, and others on the primary. Stock 07 450r's make close to 40 give or take, while the dirtbike is making about 50 give or take. The 450 motor is pretty serious technology in the quad or the bike. The quad is just a bit choked up. Anyone thinks they can get onto a quad.

Either way I totally dig this build. From the first ride on my trx450r the only thing I could think of was "this would be the best trike. ever."...glad to see somebodys doing it!

gaukel350x
10-17-2007, 02:30 PM
Hey jason you said if we have the 450 motor and the 350x bike you would do the conversion for us?
I mean not for free but money does talk.

Jason Hall
10-17-2007, 08:58 PM
Yes I could do It, but the time Involved Is kinda crazy. The cylinder head has to be modified big time to make the crf engine fit In a 350x chassis. My buddy that owns the ban saw about passed out when he saw what I did to a perfectly good crf cylinder head :D

I mentioned before, that I saved all the templates when I built both 450's. So anything Is possable, I guess.

gaukel350x
10-17-2007, 09:05 PM

How much did the whole project cost you if you don't mind to say.

gaukel350x
10-29-2007, 09:49 PM
Jason you said you had all the templates from the 450 projects right, well I'm gonna dgaf and start this glorious project. I was wondering if I could (if you don't mind) get written down on paper copys of all the materials you used, all the specs and measurements, and every little detail you used and did so I can make this project perfect as possible, without damaging my frame and other vital parts.
I'm first gonna get a kawasaki tecate so I have something to mob while I'm doing this project, done by the master himself Mr. Halls.

As soon as I get my aluminum frame done, I just might have a modified 350x frame & tripples for sale. I have crazy amounts of time In gussoting the stock frame. If you have a stock frame to compare to, you will see just how much has been done to this one.

The Intake has to be cut off the head & moved over about 1" so the carb will clear the frame on the left side.

I don't have an easy way to resize picture's, so It's easier for me to use photobucket. Sorry for the huge pic's & the need to scroll sideways.
