Well i finally more or less finished the 500, for now anyways! I took it out on the ice on saturday and i am more than happy at the moment with the power it has. I definatly have to swap my +8 swingarm in. Comes up way too easily the way it is. Let me know what you guys think. Also i can say the myth about the vibrattion is just that, a myth. It vibrates a little bit more than a 250 but its not that bad at all.

I love the beast, ive wanted to do this since i had my first 250r when i was 13, well 12 years later i can say i did it. I wonder if honda would of actually ran production on these if the ban wasnt placed

it is believed that a 500R was in the prototype phase at Honda Japan in '87 when the decree went into effect. it is also believed it was stolen as well, I cannot confirm either one of these possibilities but I know they have been cussed and discussed on these forums before.

Hi that must be crazy to ride. I have a 1986 kawasaki kx500 works replica and the power is great. It is not jerky with a wild hit. It just has a lot of power everywhere. It is a beast to start. How hard is the cr500 engine to start? What year engine did you use?

Very nice job , that 500r motor is going to chew up the fuel in your short track tank pretty quick.

The 500's have vibration problems in quad frames. Sweet trike by the way. I want one...

Oh yea keep the fuel can close. My riding style made me take my short track tank off. I think that is mine. Did you buy it on eBay??? When I sold mine the buyer said he was building a 500R. Nice bike!!!

Screw getting a longer swinger! just gear it out!!!! seriously add a tooth up front and drop 3 in back and you'll be all set. That top end on the frozen lakes is the best!!!!!

The motor is a 85 model, yes the flat track tank is only good for about 35 min, that was just riding normal. As far as starting, it SUCKS!! I know the carb needs some adjustments to the pilot wich i plan on doing this weekend. When its cold, it wont start. I had to have someone pull me to pop it, once its warmed up though it starts within 3 kicks. A good friend of mine had a 88 500 bike, he says he found a trick to starting it, he said if he leaned the bike on its side until the carb overflowed he could start it in 2 kicks cold, does this sound logical?? How do all u other guys 500s start???? Any tips-tricks???

I did add a tooth in the front, rear is stock. The flat track tank i got from my friend for $75 still in the packages and came with the tripple and absolutely everything else that goes with it. Even the instruction papers. Good score!!! I felt bad taking it out of their bags, but i love the looks of them and couldnt resist. Do you guys have a headlight for yours?? I think i can buy a lighting coil but i havent really looked yet.

This always worked for me. Service honda has some lighting coils for 500's $$$$. My friend bought a device that hooked to the stock CR ignition, it was cheap and didnt even provide enough light to even be worth putting on the bike.

So does anyone have any pictures or literature on these prototype atc500s??? Do they look like our conversion bikes or were they setup differently

My only tip on starting a 500 is pump it a couple of times and then kick it like there is no tomorrow. You have to kick it from the top. You can not push the kick starter down a little bit or you will never get it started. There is a guy on ebay doing machine work for a decompression lever for about $180. He says that the bike will start up like a 125 with this work done. I don't have that kind of money to spend but if you do I would say it is worth it.

On a 500. Its always good to tip it sideways till gas pours out. Its like a primer!!!

hey, they make carbs with accelerator pumps, adjustable enrichment circuits, to make it easier to start. but it's really hard to beat electric start.

I have a 1970 Honda ATC90 that doesn't start, and I'm not sure why, I'm diagnosing the problem now. Wanna trade straight up? :w00t: haaaaaa...

Nice trike, lovin' it. wish I had _something_ similar, hell, I just wish I had something that ran :D

With my 500 I kick It over easy till It pops out the exhaust, then kick Er hard twice & It's running. It took me a long time to finally figure that out. I tried leaning It over, that worked part of the time. But the backfire technique works every time. It's pretty funny though, you get one revolution per kick no matter how hard you kick It Ha, Ha.

You'll have to hook me up with that location, and how to get there. Also, yes, I know about the internet. I'm a PC Technician so I know a lot more about the internet than most. :beer I love living here, it's quite the city, I don't like most of the people, but the city is nice! :D. But yea', mine has original tires on it, cept the front. It just don't run  heh. Nice to see ye' up in here.
