Anybody ever tried using a media tumbler to restore old nuts and bolts? If so, how were the results and how long did it take?

I have got old bolts nice and clean differnt ways. But, what happens is that the zinc coating is gone and rust sets in real quick.

Thats why I run SS bolts in as many parts as I can.

I buy them in long sizes, fully threaded and i boxes of 100 and then cut them down.

I'd like to find a cheap alternative as well. I had to buy 4 OEM nuts, bolts and washers for my lt230 bearing carrier and it cost me almost $50.
