Ok me and 82'185s are having an arguement with someone about how to pronounce 'tecate'. Is it 'tee*kate' or 'tuh*kah*tee'? I know that this is a stupid question but I cant sleep until I find out which way is right. Any one know the right way?

I was out last weekend at a mexican restaurant and asked the beautiful spanish waitress the proper way to pronounce it and she said "TEH-KAH-TAY". So from now on that's how I'm saying it. Oh ya, and how do you say"TRI-Z".

Te-Ca-Tee

And here in Oz we pronounce the TRI-Z as "Tri-Zed". I know that most you guys refer to them as Tri-Zee, but I like the "Zed" in the "sled", In fact, I wish I had one in the Shed. Next to my TE-CA-TE.

Cheers

serveysa?????

Tecate is a Mexican town after which they named a beer. Spanish has a simple set of rules to pronounce vowels, unlike English. Spanish "e" is always pronounced like an English long A (tay). Spanish "a" is always pronounced like an English short o (cot). 2nd to the last syllable is always accented, unless the written word has an accent in it. Correct Spanish pronunciation is "Tay cot' tay" but when you add the gringo English accent its usually pronounced "teh cot' ee." After a good ride you can drink a cervesa since you will not likey find a "serveysa" in Mexico!
