Hey, i'll admit I know nothing about sleds, but I need to know if anyone here knows how to find out what a engine came out of. I was wondering if anyone could tell me by the engine code or make of the engine? the engine pull start cover and on the I.D. tag says "JLO Rockwell" it has two cylinders, and judging by the size it looks to be about a 350-450cc, fan cooled, 2 stroke. The only reason i am wondering is because I need to buy some parts (bearings, gaskets, and a piston kit) for it. I know dennis kirk is good for ATV, but is that a good place for sled parts too?

If you can post a pic of the tag or at least what it says exactly on the tag,I can decipher it for you. Plus...there's great shop in MI that has all of the old school engine parts and such.

see if you can find the engine model. it will be stamped on the cylinders at the bottom or on the crank case some where. you will need too take the shrouding off to find it. but it is the easiest way to find out what model it is. if you know what sled it was on or find out what sled it was on it would be great. get us some pictures and model numbers then i could be more help.

The model number is 2f340-1 or 2f340. the engine size is 340cc. the other numbers on the tag say... Typ- Zeichen, the numbers stamped are 217. next it says Hubr. stamped it says 339 ccm. then PS/n. then Mot.- Nr. stamped it says 338 19665. also on the tag else where it says JLO Rockwell G.m.b.H (<-- just like that) Pinneberg/ Hamburg.. Stamped into the bottom of the crank case (not on the tag) is 338.01.003 then over on the othe side of the case on the bottom reads 71 (year possibly?). I hope this is good enough.

ok it is a 71 from what the book shows. 71 is the only year artic cat used a jlo 340 that had the displacement of 339 cc now they used it on 2 model sleds. but they are the same year. so when you order gaskets and so on just make sure you order them for a 1971 artic cat 340-p or a 340-pu . if you need more info i will be more than glad to look it up or try too lol. i love vintage sleds but im not much into cats or even jlo motors.
