Hone Question

Need to hone my steel sleeve and I have a new to me hone intead my old flex hone.

This is a ball hone. Was told to put a film of oil on the wall and then use the hone.

Correct or do I run it all dry like it is now?

They say it keeps it from clogging but I don't see the use. If it was alunumum, I could see that. They do not recommend putting any on a grinder if you are going to grind on stee so i would have to say no for that reason. It doesn't clog the balls. The benefit I do see is that since there is a restricted way for the chips to fly (right into your face over the hole) that it helps keep them stuck to the cylinder wall and hone and it doesn't end up in your lungs.
