it says HEAD on it,,,, that side up!!!!!!!!!  just kidding

I think this is why most people have problems with head gaskits leakin,, all after market head gaskets are not marked witch way they go,, but this is how ya tell the top layer goes all the way to the bore,, Thats the head side the first two pics are the head side.

the jug side has a step in the bottom layer ..the last pic right where the pen tip is.. sorry so blurry but I think you will get the point. that side goes down!!;)

I know this is for a Tri-z, but I had the same problem with my ole 85 250r. I threw a de-glazed jug back on my top end with a new piston kit. When I went to fire it up, it leaked and I couldn't figure out why. I just threw my old metal head gasket back on because I knew which way that one went. Another tip is to use water when checking your work and leaks. I waisted half a jug of 50/50 trying to stop my leaks.

so why is it like that? why isn't all 3 layers of the gasket the same?

i just figured it didn't matter which way it went. good thing you posted this!

I think its for the direction of the water jackets to pump water in and out of the jug.
