what do you guys recommend for a good tap and die set without breaking bank? i'm going to tear down my atc70 again and would like to buy one to have on hand. every time i tear down my toys i end up having to buy new hardware from pounding on things. axle threads are important not to mess up and having to pound on them with a rubber mallet to get them out doesn't always work the way i want it to.

I have a sears set that I have had for years. You should look at getting a thread files too. I got those from snap on they were pretty cheap.

Matco has a nice set I'm about to buy, 117 pieces has SAE and metric taps and dies, drillbits, extractors(EZ-outs) and all the necessary tools with it....costs 340 bucks tho.

Sears has a rethread kit that comes with thread files, I have the same set from Snap-On but the sears set looks just the same. If you are going to clean up threads and fix damaged one this is what I would recommend over a tap set which is more for cutting new threads.

Craftsman 40 pc. Tap and Die Set, Master Rethreader
Sears item #00952105000 Mfr. model #52105
49.99

it will do both STD and Met. but if I remeber right you will need to get a 14mm die for the axle thread on a 70.

I was going to get one of those rethread sets but decided on Sears biggest tap & die set instead. Glad I did. I use it alot more than I thought I would.
