like the title says, I need more low end for a bike i just got. Friday i picked up a 90something model Polris 500 4x4 and its a dang good bike for what i paid for it (even though I'd usually have a gun to my head to buy one). My only problem is that it in no way shape or form has the low end I'm used to on a honda. I know it being an automatic it might be a little more sluggish on take off, but I am in dire need of some low end power for mud. The bike's just so heavy and doesnt have the thump it needs. What are some ways I can pick up the low end im needing for my new toy. Hopefully more along the lines of being a cheaper way to scavenge some power. Also, where the head pipe connects to the cylinder doesnt seem to have a good bond. Where I'm usually mud riding at has a good bit of water and thatmixed with a leaky bike isnt too good. Guys, WHAT CAN I DO????????? BIG THANKS!!!

Need more info. Exactly what model and year is it. When it's in low range is the lowend better? Might be time for new belt and a heavier primary clutch spring. Check out EPI for that stuff, they have good stuff. Also, does it have stock tires on it, or more aggressive tread, or are they taller?

yea i would put a clutch kit in it, my friend put one in his and made a big difference, if you ant more low also go down a size in the rear tires, but i dont know if you want to do that since you said you want them for in the mud

Thanks guys. It's a 97 model sportsman 500. It's got 25-10-11 bi claws up front and 25-13.5-10 tri claws out back. There is a noticeable amount of more low end snap in low range. I was fixing to buy a belt (is dayco pretty good?). So the clutch kits make a pretty big difference too? thanks again.

Dayco is ok. Check out EPI (https://www.erlandsonperformance.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=EPI&Category_Code=Polaris) they can hook you up with clutch kits and the belt. A heavier primary spring will wake it up.

definatley go with the clutch kit and springs, i put in a a few of those for an ATV Tour company, it really made a HUGE difference! once you have done that, go with a aftermarket filter and maybe a pipe!

Yes, the clutch/tranny engagement is the first thing to look into. I'm not sure where you would find the kits. but I know they are out there. They will get power to the wheels harder and faster which will help with the bottom end. You could also look into the cam/pipe department also.
