Hi, I just recentely got what I was told to be a 1983 Suzuki LT185, it looks kind of small to be a 185, so I was wondering If anybody could tell me where on the engine it says the engine size? Also, I am having trouble getting it into any gears other than 3rd and 4th, so I am going to put fresh oil in and I hope that helps, so I was wondering where is the crankcase/trans case oil drain plug is, and does it have a hexagonal hole to unscrew the drain plug? Also, both the LT125 and the Lt185 were both 4 strokes, right? Thanks for all the help in advance fella's!:beer

left side of cylinder near the case should have the cc's marked.

the 185's have front suspemsion, the 125's don't. thats how you can tell the differance.

there is a bolt on the bottom of the engine thats for draining the oil.

you probably have a worn gear. as the 125's and 185's had problems with gears being worn out. most common was reverse being worn and the main driveshaft breaking in half.

Alright, I have some more news, I changed the oil, and it didnt help much, the only gears I can get are 2nd, 3rd, and fourth. When ever I try to get into another gear other than those 3, the shift lever just goes down and hops back up, so does anybody know what the problem might be, you say a shaft might be broken, could it be anything else? Also what is the shift pattern on this, is it 1st is bottom, then you push the leaver down for neutral, then you push the lever down for 2nd,and then the lever down for 3rd, and then the lever down for 4th?BTW it is a 185.

Well, I got the shifting worked out, I just had to get it moving, but could someone still tell me the shift pattern? I think I know what it is but i'm not quite sure. Also, there is a little knob on the side of the carb, can anyone tell me what this is, and how to use it, thanks.

I think neutral is either at the top or at the bottom, and the gears go from neutral to 5th in a straight line, not one down and 4 up like on a dirt bike.

on the 125 the knob on the left side is the fuel primer. and the knob on the right side is the cold weather choke.

Well guys, I found out it burns oil like crazy! And I dont want to go into the engine and replace the rings, just too much work for something I dont really like, So i sold it, I got $500 for it, and here are some pictures of the quad.

Look and see if there is a little clear window on the left side of the engine in about the middle-ish lower case, with oil level marks on them.

I found the little clear window, no marks on it though. Kinda hard to see into it.

If anyone has a copy of the manuals for this atv in pdf format, ill pay for a copy
