has anyone ever had any expierence with a 70's era ford ranger f-100 with a 460? lol someones selling one for 500, It looks like a smurf truck but i was wondering how much power a stock 460 would have? i have a 86 dodge 318 d150 with a edel brock carb im curently in the process of puting another transmision in, but was thinking about selling it and getting the ford. I dunno a 460 must burn alot of gas but how much more power would it have than that dodge 318. I wont be towing any trailers and ive heard about all those ford 460s are good for is pulling power not really a hot rod is this true?

I would keep the dodge, you will pass everything but a gas station, plus 460 is good pulling motor, if not going to be pulling any thing would stay a from it.

460's make excellent hot rods, besides the weight and fuel factor. If you get a 68-69 model from a Lincoln with the D0VE high compression heads, you'll have nearly 400hp stock. Add a carb and headers and you'll definetly be on it. The 69 Lincoln 460 in my truck has a Holley 750, and my cousin has a 88 Dodge with a 318, and he has a Edelbrock 650 carb, and there is absolutely NO comparison. The 460 engine is almost twice as powerful in my truck. Granted I'm geared pretty low, but even so its not even worth comparing.

They are bad on fuel though, but if your making a hot rod you'll love the power. Nothing like being able to cruise around 45-50mph and nail the throttle and leave burn marks on the road with a truck :-)

Thats funny...I've never heard of a F100 with a 460 in it?? Wouldn't that be like a F-150 with the new 6.0 Turbodesiel in it.

Its very common and easy swap. I know of atleast 5-6 trucks around here that have it.

lol the trans. is half way out my dodge. im still debaiting. and for ATC crazy yes its a 460. Now if it came stock in that truck i do not know. I couldnt find any information on it. Its a f-100 ranger. its a long wheel base truck. I havnt talked to the guy who owns it just my dad who knows him. it has new tires, new paint, but its a gas hog.. Hell my puny 318 is a gas hog i cant imagine how a 460 would be. I may get it later as a project truck. now i guess im going to hold on to my dodge.

Me too on seeing the 460 in F-100's, my father has one in Oregon right now, his POS dump running truck. I traded a 75 Scout II for a 76 Ford Ranchero with a Lincoln 460 in it back in HS. That thing was one hell of a sleeper off the line, real quiet exhaust, but had a 750CFM holley double pumper on top that a guy had tuned for drag racing. I had to put 10 inch wide wheels on the rear end and a set of "street legal" slicks on it to actually get it to hook up, talk about laying a patch of rubber though. (Yes I got about 5 MPG with it cruising, about 1MPG racing  )

I've seen a 75 F-100 with a 460 in it. But it was a 4wd... What year truck is it? 73-79 are the best to me......
