We have a 2001 Rancher and the pull start is super light and easy. Maybe there is something wrong? As for a relief, there isnt one that I am aware of.

Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about. The pull on my dad's Rancher is super light, nothing compared to my Big Bear. I believe it's got an auto decompression system on the cam gear, but I may be wrong.

If what redrider said is true, maybe your cam gear is broken? No clue about anything engine wise, just know how to ride. If ya wanna pull something that could tear your arm off if the decompression isnt on, come pull our 1984 185 suzuki quadrunner. That thing honestly could hurt you if you forget to put the lever on! Let us know what you find out with your rancher tho.

I hear you. My Big Bear 400 is insanely hard to pull over sometimes, it just rips the handle out of your hand and near breaks your fingers.

That sounds like my rancher, I'll have to look for a problem.

Oh man thats crazy! There has to be something wrong with the rancher, that should not happen. I feel the pain though, many years of trying to pull that 185...getting pissed and cant start it then ya start to pull like a nut and just once forget to put the decompression on and wham your arm feels like what jello looks like and your fingers are tingeling in pure pain, at that point you just push the bike back into the garage or leave it where it is! LOL
